Android 7.0 Nougat may be the latest and greatest, but there are still phones out there which are waiting for their chance to get a taste of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. AT&T is now helping along two of the devices on its network move toward this goal with the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge, as they began pushing the software updates for both of those phones just earlier this afternoon. While it’s quite likely that not every single user on AT&T’s network with one of these devices will have the update come through today, there’s always a chance that the update could show up if it is forced to download by manually checking from the settings menu, which is always an option if it hasn’t shown up for you yet as a notification.
Today’s update follows the Marshmallow update that AT&T began sending out to owners of Samsung’s Galaxy S5, which they started pushing to users back on August 26th. Since this is Android 6.0 Marshmallow, users of either the Galaxy Note 4 or the Galaxy Note Edge can expect the usual Marshmallow-related goodies, like Doze Mode and App Standby which both help to increase the longevity of the battery life on phones.
While those two features will help with the battery, Marshmallow introduces other new features which users can more directly interact with, such as Google’s Now on Tap that enhances the use of Google Now, and the more granular permission control which enables the permissions to be accepted upon opening an app to use it as opposed to having to accept them before installing an app. Naturally, since this update facilitates a move from Android 5.1 Lollipop to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the update files are rather large in size and come in at about 1.3GB. Because of this, it’s recommended that users make sure they have at least 50 percent for the battery life, and as always it’s probably a good idea to make sure that you’re connected to a local Wi-Fi network before downloading a file of that size, as you could end up blowing through a sizable chunk of 4G data.
