Many people that subscribe to Hulu and other services like Netflix and Spotify, all share their account with other people. Whether it be friends or even other family members that are under the same roof. Netflix has long had “profiles” on their platform, which allows different users to essentially have their own, well profile. This way whatever one person is watching doesn’t mess up the recommendations that the service would give to everyone else. Now, Hulu is following suite. Today, the company announced that they were indeed bringing profiles to all of their users.
Users are able to create profiles under their account settings. Hulu will even walk people through setting up a new profile, so that everyone knows exactly what is happening. When you first create a new profile, Hulu will ask you what kind of genres and shows you like,. It’ll also ask you what movies and shows you don’t like. This will help the recommendation engine get started in making some accurate recommendations for users to watch on Hulu. The company is also making a new Kids profile, that will only showcase kid-friendly content. This way you can set your kid free on Hulu and not have to worry about them watching something that they shouldn’t be.
Hulu says that profiles are beginning their rollout today to the most popular Hulu devices, and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks. However, those that use Hulu on the web can already get started with profiles. Just click on Account, and then Profiles, and you’re all set. Currently, Hulu hasn’t set a limit on how many profiles you can have – or at least they haven’t announced a limit. But they are touting the fact that as your household evolves and changes you’ll be able to create, edit and delete profiles whenever you see fit.
Hulu is known for offering up top TV show episodes 24 hours after they air. This allows those without a TV subscription to keep up with all of their favorite shows (given that Hulu has the rights to them), for a lot less money. Hulu recently got rid of their ad-supported free tier, and now offers up their content for $7.99 per month. That’s comparable to Netflix right now. Hulu also supports many VR platforms including Daydream.
