Nokia Mobile has confirmed via Twitter that the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones will all be launched in the U.S. as part of a planned “global release”. Responding to a couple of queries on the micro-blogging site, the company specifically said that the devices will be available for purchase in the U.S. and Taiwan going forward. While the Nokia rep on Twitter did not specify an ETA for the U.S. and Taiwanese launch, the devices are expected to launch in the U.K. in May. HMD Global had earlier announced that it will launch all its upcoming Nokia-branded phones in India, calling the country one of its ‘priority markets’.
Three new Android smartphones were introduced at the MWC trade show earlier this year by HMD Global, the Finnish startup that has the exclusive right to market mobile phones under the Nokia brand until 2024. The devices in question are the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, all of which are mid-range or entry-level smartphones that don’t really offer anything exciting in terms of their hardware specifications. However, the one device that has actually managed to grab everyone’s attention is an all-new take on the famous Nokia 3310 feature phone that was originally launched way back in 2000, and went on to become one of the biggest-selling and most-loved mobile phones in history, thanks to its legendary reliability that has spawned many a hilarious meme on the world wide web.
Meanwhile, HMD is also expected to launch a flagship Nokia smartphone with premium hardware later this year, although the company continues to remain fairly tight-lipped about the details. The device will apparently be marketed as the Nokia 8, and is rumored to ship with a 5.7-inch QHD screen, 6GB of RAM and a Snapdragon 835 under the hood, making it one of the best devices to look forward to this year. The three other smartphones, though, offer much more humble hardware in comparison. All three devices are powered by the decidedly entry-level Snapdragon 430, and feature screens ranging from 5-inches to 5.5-inches in size. Either way, many are still waiting with bated breath for the launch of the first set of true Android handsets sporting the Nokia brand, so it will be interesting to see how the devices will be received by consumers once they’re launched globally in the coming weeks.
