Samsung Electronics released the Galaxy J7 (2017) in its home country of South Korea where the device is marketed as the Galaxy Wide 2. The handset is sold exclusively by SK Telecom, a Seoul-based mobile service provider owned by SK Group, though it’s likely that more wireless carriers will be offering the device in the near future. SK Telecom is selling the Galaxy Wide 2 for an upfront fee of 297,000 won, which translates to approximately $265, though consumers willing to sign up for a contractual data plan will also be able to obtain the device for a smaller fee. The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer has yet to officially announce the availability of the Galaxy Wide 2, but SK Telecom already detailed the smartphone and confirmed many of its previously rumored specifications while also correcting some other recent reports about the handset.
According to the carrier’s listing, the Galaxy Wide 2 (SM-J727S) boasts a 5.5-inch display panel with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels that’s protected by 2.5D glass. The device is powered by a Samsung-made system-on-chip (SoC) with eight cores clocked at a maximum frequency of 1.6GHz, though the exact model number of the silicon has yet to be revealed. The same listing reveals that the Galaxy Wide 2 sports 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal flash memory that’s expandable via a microSD card tray by up to 256GB. The rear panel of the smartphone houses a 13-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.9 and a conventional LED flash, while its top bezel boasts a 5-megapixel front shooter. The hardware of the Galaxy Wide 2 is powered by a 3,300mAh battery, while the device itself ships with Android 7.0 Nougat and Samsung’s proprietary mobile software suite. SK Telecom is offering Samsung’s latest entry-level smartphone in Black and Silver variants.
Given some smaller discrepancies between the Galaxy Wide 2 and recent reports on the Galaxy J7 (2017), it’s possible that Samsung will opt to release a slightly upgraded version of the handset in the West that will ship with 3GB of RAM and a larger battery. The Galaxy J7 (2017) was already certified by several regulatory and standards agencies in the United States, so more details on the upcoming handset and its availability should follow shortly.
