ASUS has unveiled the A.I.-powered ZenFone 5 series of smartphones at Mobile World Congress 2018, introducing the public to its own brand of phones with features that are enhanced by artificial intelligence. Included in the new trio of smartphones is the ZenFone 5, the ZenFone 5Q (which will be called the ZenFone 5 Lite internationally), and the ZenFone 5Z, all of which are fairly similar in a number of ways but also have their own differences in terms of what they have to offer the consumers and set themselves apart, which in turn will give consumers choice and not limit them to choosing a particular device because of some of the more advanced features not being present.
Starting with the ZenFone 5, ASUS has enhanced the cameras on this device to adapt to and learn the scene the user is shooting so it can help deliver a perfect picture. Using the power of artificial intelligence the ZenFone 5 will analyze the subject in the photo an attempt to match it to one of sixteen different predefined scene types that ASUS has configured. In doing this ASUS says that the camera is able to adjust the elements needed for each photo to get the best possible picture every time, regardless of what it is you’re taking pictures of. The use of A.I. doesn’t stop there as the phone will also be able to learn how users like their photos when taught. The more users tell the camera app how they like image results, the camera will adjust settings for future pictures. The A.I tech inside the camera is fueled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor which also powers the main dual camera setup on the back. The phone also comes with a 6.2-inch Full HD display with a 19:9 aspect ratio.
In addition to the ZenFone 5, the ZenFone 5Q also comes with a dual camera setup for the main camera on the backside of the device, though it doesn’t boast the same intelligent features as the ZenFone 5. That said it still offers some compelling camera features that will cater to the budding smartphone photographer, as it features a 20-megapixel main camera on the front and a 16-megapixel main camera on the back, each paired with a 120-degree wide-angle lens. The ZenFone 5Q also still keeps things fairly large in the display department as it features a 6-inch Full HD display so it’s not too much smaller than the ZenFone 5, while also adding a Snapdragon 630 processor,
Lastly, there’s the ZenFone 5Z, which also comes with a 6.2-inch Full HD display like the ZenFone 5, and it mirrors the same A.I.-powered camera features, such A.I. scene detection, yet it steps things up on the processor front to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, making this top-tier model of the three. The screen is also using the 19:9 aspect ratio which means users will have a lot of screen real estate to work with. The ASUS ZenFone 5Z will be available for $499 in the U.S. and will be launching in June of this year. As for colors, the ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 5Z will be available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver, while the ZenFone 5Q comes in Midnight Black, Moonlight White, and Rogue Red.
