The Xperia L2 smartphone from Sony Mobile is now available to purchase in India for Rs. 19,990 ($310) a month after the company announced the mid-range device along with the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra at the Consumer Electronics Show last month in Las Vegas. The handset can be purchased from a vast array of retail stores across the country, and it is available in Black and Gold color options. The Sony Xperia L2 is the successor to last year’s Xperia L1 smartphone announced at the Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. Compared to the new XA2 line of smartphones, however, the latest addition to the L series seems to boast a more solid camera experience, though the price is a bit of a turn-off for a mid-ranger.
Spec-wise, the Xperia L2 sports a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with a 1280 x 720-pixel resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The display is also protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It’s worth noting that the display is considered ‘borderless’ due to the location of the side bezels on the minimal side in contrast with the ‘bezel-less’ devices that have come in droves over the past year. That means significant portions of the Xperia L2 screen are still occupied by non-screen parts at the top and bottom areas. Under the hood, the handset is powered by a quad-core system-on-chip clocked at 1.5 GHz backed by Mali-T720MP2 GPU. It also packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage that is expandable up to 256 GB using a microSD. On the optics side of things, the Xperia L2 boasts a 13-megapixel rear camera with support for 3x image zooming, while an 8-megapixel shooter with 120-degree super-wide-angle lens sits on the front of the phone. The device is juiced up by a 3,300mAh battery, which features various battery-saving software tools including the “Stamina Mode.” The handset, however, still runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat, with no clear timeline for an upgrade to Android 8.0 Oreo, if at all.
Other key features of the Xperia L2 include an accelerometer, proximity sensor, NFC support, compass, and a fingerprint sensor found on the back of the device. The Xperia L2 also comes with a metallic design and a curved back. Overall, the Xperia L2 does not differ that much from last year’s Xperia L1.
