General Mobile has announced its own Android One and Android Go offerings at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the General Mobile GM8 and GM8 Go (though General Mobile also refers to the ‘Go’ version as ‘Pro’, for one reason or the other). These two smartphones are not exactly all that similar, the GM8 is considerably more powerful. The General Mobile GM8 sports 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of storage, while it is fueled by the Snapdragon 435 64-bit octa-core SoC, and it is made out of metal. That being said, this handset follows the lead of three Nokia-branded phones, as far as Android One MWC 2018 announcements are concerned, as HMD introduced the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 (2018) in Barcelona recently.

The General Mobile GM8 is inferior to all Nokia-branded phones that we’ve mentioned a second ago. Aside from the details we’ve mentioned already, the device sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display, and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. A 3.075mAh non-removable battery sits on the inside of the phone, and having its display resolution, battery size, and software version in mind, this battery should be more enough to get you to the end of the day, and then some. A 13-megapixel snapper (f/2.0 aperture) sits on the back of the General Mobile GM8, while a 13-megapixel camera (f/2.2) can be found on its front side as well, but as you can see, the aperture of these two cameras is different. Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on this smartphone, while it supports 4G LTE connectivity (TD-LTE and FDD-LTE). A 3.5mm headphone jack is also a part of the package, while the phone comes in Gold and Space Gray color variants. Bezels on the General Mobile GM8 aren’t exactly extremely thin, but this is an entry-level smartphone, so that’s not exactly surprising.

The General Mobile GM8 Go is a different picture, however. The phone sports a 5.5-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display, along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. The phone is fueled by the MediaTek MT6739 64-bit quad-core SoC, and it comes with a 3,500mAh non-removable battery. Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition) comes pre-installed on the device, while this phone comes with some sort of a rubber-like material on the back. At the time being, we do not have any availability info to share with you, but the two phones are expected to become available really soon in a number of regions, Europe will be first in line though, most probably.
