The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is quite affordable, but despite that, it offers great performance, sturdy build, big battery and it looks nice as well.
Xiaomi had introduced the Redmi Note 5 Pro in mid-February, in India, along with its sibling, the Redmi Note 5. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is inferior to the Redmi Note 5 Pro, as their naming scheme suggests, and the company actually brought the ‘Pro’ model to this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in order to show it off to attendees, and the world, at the same time, as the phone has not been announced outside of India just yet. During our time in Barcelona, we were able to take a closer look at the Redmi Note 5 Pro, and we have to say that the phone left a really good impression, everything from its build to performance, which is why we’ve decided to give one of our ‘Best of MWC 2018’ awards to Xiaomi and its Redmi Note 5 Pro handset.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro will launch in China on March 16, and chances are that more countries will get it after that. The device will officially land in Spain in the near future, while users all over Europe will probably be able to get it from resellers in the near future. The Redmi Note 5 Pro was announced in two variants, a more affordable model comes with 4GB of RAM, while the top-of-the-line Redmi Note 5 Pro sports 6GB of RAM. Those two variants of the phone are priced at Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 16,999 in India, which translates to $215 and $261. As you can see, both variants of the phone are quite affordable, especially considering that the Redmi Note 5 Pro is quite capable of capturing really nice images, thanks to its dual camera setup on the back, while the phone also offers an all-metal build, and Xiaomi’s well-optimized MIUI 9 skin out of the box, which comes on top of Android Nougat, in this case.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro utilizes on-screen buttons this time around, unlike its predecessors, which came with capacitive keys. The device also sports considerably thinner bezels than the Redmi Note 4 and all of its other predecessors, as Xiaomi also started trimming down bezels wherever it can. The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus, which landed earlier this year, sported rather thin bezels, while Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro decided to follow that very same trend. Bezels on the Redmi Note 5 Pro are not as thin as they are on the LG V30, Galaxy S9 or some other flagships out there, but having the device’s price tag in mind, they’re quite thin, as very few other phones which cost that much can say they have a 77.44-percent screen-to-body ratio.
On the back of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, you will find a fingerprint scanner, which is really fast, and chances are you won’t miss anything even if you’ve used something a bit quicker. This phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 636 SoC, which is one of Qualcomm’s more powerful mid-range processors, and in combination with the RAM setup we’ve already mentioned, and Xiaomi’s skin, Redmi Note 5 Pro offers stellar performance, at least it did during our testing. The phone also comes with a rather large battery on the inside, a 4,000mAh unit, which is not removable, and in combination with the phone’s processors and its fullHD+ display, that battery should provide more than enough juice, even to power users.
