Samsung has recently resumed the distribution of the Android 8.0 Oreo update to both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. The deployment of the software package was halted a few days ago after reports of boot loops and bricked devices surfaced after users installed the operating system upgrade. Moderators from Samsung’s official help forums stated that the rollout of the software update was suspended to allow the smartphone manufacturer to investigate and resolve the cause of boot loops.

However, units of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge are now getting the Android 8.0 Oreo update, several days after the South Korean tech giant initially suspended the distribution of the operating system upgrade. The Galaxy S7 is receiving the software package with the firmware version number G930FXXU2ERE8 while the Galaxy S7 Edge is getting the update with the build number G935FXXU2ERE8. Among the features that the major operating system upgrade should bring to the two devices include the native support for the Picture-in-Picture mode, the autofill functionality, and the notification dots feature. Furthermore, the changelog of the software package mentioned that the update also brings the April 2017 Android security patch and the Samsung Experience 9.0 to the two handsets. It should be noted that the smartphone manufacturer is advising users to back up the files and images stored in the device to a microSD card or a personal computer to prevent loss of important data. Moreover, the battery of the handset should have sufficient charge to last the entire update process. The tech firm also noted that before installing the operating system upgrade, a number of applications may have to be updated separately. These include Samsung Pay, Samsung Internet, Samsung Notes, and Email apps.

This is not the first time that the South Korean device maker had to temporarily suspend the rollout of a major operating system upgrade. Samsung also suspended the deployment of its Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus due to reports of random reboots and it took several weeks before the device maker resolved the issue and resumed the distribution of the software package.
