Motorola seems all set to introduce its latest G series smartphones to the Indian market with the company now teasing their arrival via its Twitter account. A short video was posted on Moto’s social media channel indicating an imminent launch of the Moto G6 and G6 Play in the country. The tweet also includes a link to a “notify me” page where the interested buyers can register to receive updates about the two smartphones. Interestingly, Motorola will not be launching the Moto G6 Plus in India, which happens to be the highest-end smartphone in the G6 lineup. This move is contrary to what the company has followed over the years by bringing the entire G line of smartphones to India soon after their international debut. While the company may choose to launch the Plus variant at a later stage, no other detail of the other two models has been shared just yet.

The 2018 Moto G series was first announced about a month ago in Brazil with three mid-range Android devices – the Moto G6 Plus, Moto G6, and the Moto G6 Play. Of these, the last two are the lower-end models that were announced with slightly inferior internals than that of the Plus model. The Lenovo-owned company included taller displays with 18:9 aspect ratio to all the three G-series phones, in line with the prevailing trends in the smartphone industry. The G6 features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display in the said aspect ratio with an FHD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. A dual-camera setup can be found on the handset’s back with a 12-megapixel and a 5-megapixel sensor. The phone features a glass-sandwich design with an aluminium frame between two glass panels. The dual-SIM phone is fueled by a Snapdragon 450 processor which is paired with Adreno 506 GPU along with up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

On the other hand, the lower-end Moto G6 Play features a Snapdragon 430 SoC and has an HD+ display measuring 5.7 inches in the same 18:9 aspect ratio. A single 13-megapixel camera is placed on its back together with a front-facing 8-megapixel camera. The Play model has its fingerprint scanner placed on its back, embedded in the Moto logo. It also gets a beefier 4,000mAh battery as compared to 3,000mAh one found on the G6. Both the phones come pre-installed with a near-stock version of Android 8.0 Oreo with a handful of additions from Motorola. Their pricing for India should be announced when the two phones are officially announced in the country in the coming weeks.
