Sony’s Xperia Ear Duo is hitting the U.S. for pre-order today at $280. The pre-orders are available through b8ta, an online retailers, as well as through Amazon. The Xperia Ear Duo will be available from these retailers in two different colors which are black and gold, and will officially release on May 25 according to Sony, though it is worth noting that Amazon’s listing for the wireless headset mentions a release date of May 31. That said this doesn’t mean that those who pre-order through Amazon won’t receive their headsets on May 25 as this is the date listed by Sony.
Sony’s Xperia Ear Duo was officially announced back at the end of February at Mobile World Congress 2018, and at the time a Spring launch date was mentioned but Sony didn’t give an exact time frame for when consumers would be able to buy the device. It also wasn’t known at the time what retailers would be picking the Xperia Ear Duo up to sell. As this is essentially a Bluetooth headset it’ll work with a wide range of phones and for Android really the only caveat is that the device needs to be running on Android 5.0 or higher. That said most phones at this point are, so users shouldn’t have much of a problem getting this to work with their device.
The Xperia Ear Duo is more than just a Bluetooth headset as it also offers dual listening, which enables users to listen to music and notifications at the same time and receive other contextual benefits like interaction with Google Assistant, head gestures that will complete functions like answering or rejecting incoming voice calls, or skipping tracks backward or forward, all by nodding up, down, left, or right to get the associated action. Like other truly wireless headsets (or earbuds) the Xperia Ear Duo has about a four-hour listening time, but this can be extended to sixteen hours if the included charging case is used.
