As part of its expansion plan, Vivo has launched the X21 Android smartphone with an in-display fingerprint scanner in the Indian market. The launch comes on the heels of an official announcement last week about the phone’s exclusivity to Flipkart. It is already up for sale on the online retailer’s website at a price of Rs. 35,990 (~$530) with a bunch of launch offers. This price is inclusive of a Rs. 1,000 (~$15) discount, while an additional Rs. 3,000 (~$44) discount is being offered on exchanging a used smartphone. The interested buyers will have an option to pay via no-cost EMI plans with the retailer also offering an additional 5-percent off on payments made through debit and credit cards of selected banks.

In terms of specifications, Vivo hasn’t made many changes to the handset when compared to the model launched in China. The most crucial element of the phone is its display that houses an industry-first in-display fingerprint scanner. The Super AMOLED display panel measures 6.28 inches offering a resolution of 2,280 x 1,080 pixels with a 19:9 aspect ratio. As per the company, the display covers about 90.3 percent of the front while the remaining space is taken up by a notch and a thin chin bezel. The much-talked-about fingerprint reader sits near the bottom edge of the display with the designated area illuminated for an easier identification of its location. The Vivo X21 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC paired with Adreno 512 GPU, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of expandable internal storage. It comes running Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0 and includes a battery of 3,200mAh capacity.

The dual-SIM phone has a hybrid card slot while also featuring a 3.5mm headphone jack and a micro USB port. The audio output via its headphone jack is handled by an AK4376A audio chip to provide a Hi-Fi output. Similar to many other Android smartphones originating from the Asian country, this device too boasts of AI-based beautification features in its camera app. A pair of cameras with imaging sensors of 12 and 5 megapixels are placed on the phone’s glass back paired with an LED flash. Over at the front, the handset has a 12-megapixel camera sensor placed inside the notch. Both front and rear cameras support features like Dual Pixel technology, AR stickers, Face Beauty, and others.
