After announcing its mid-range Galaxy J8 Android smartphone last month, Samsung seems all set to release it on a global level. The South Korean company is expected to make the phone available early next month, in line with its previously disclosed schedule. The assumption is made on the basis of an official firmware for the device becoming available online. Samsung will reportedly release the Galaxy J8 in India, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates before rolling it out to other international markets, with the first two countries getting the SM-J810G model, while the West Asian nation will get the SM-J810F model.

The firmware for the SM-J810G model will carry the build number J810GDDU1ARF4, while the SM-J810F model will be identified as J810FJXU1ARF2, with both of them including the April 2018 security patch. Samsung had announced the Galaxy J8 late last month at an event in India, where it was accompanied by the Galaxy J6, Galaxy A6, and the Galaxy A6 Plus. With a price tag of Rs. 18,990 (~$279), the handset stood out with its tall Infinity Display and an 18:9 aspect ratio, a first for the budget Galaxy J series from Samsung, along with a rear-placed dual-camera setup.

An HD+ Super AMOLED display measuring six inches diagonally occupies most of the phone’s front, leaving no space for a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, an established design element of older Samsung smartphones. The phone has its biometric reader placed below the two rear cameras, an arrangement first seen on some premium devices from the company’s portfolio. The primary camera has a 16-megapixel sensor paired with a 5-megapixel one, while the front-facing module also has a 16-megapixel imaging sensor together with an LED flash. An entry-level Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 powers the device with its eight cores and is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage space. The phone has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack and comes fueled by a 3,500mAh battery, running Samsung Experience 9.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
