Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Vivo, has added another mid-range smartphone to its portfolio available in India. The Vivo Y83 is the newest member of the Vivo Y series of smartphones that debuted in China last week. According to a Mumbai-based retailer Mahesh Telecom, the company has priced the phone at Rs. 14,990 (~$222) and is already available for purchase from the store, and possibly via other stores as well. Vivo hasn’t formally announced the phone in the South Asian market and has directly made it available via its offline sales channels, while the lack of an official word also means there is an uncertainty regarding the phone’s online availability. A set of device specifications were also shared by the retailer in a tweet showing the Y83’s mid-range nature.

In line with the recent market trend, this Android mid-ranger from Vivo includes a notched display measuring 6.22 inches with a 19:9 aspect ratio offering a screen-to-body ratio of 88 percent. It is an HD+ IPS display panel with a resolution of 1,520 x 720 pixels and comes covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The thin front bezels left no room for a fingerprint scanner, which is now placed on the phone’s back where a single 13-megapixel (f/2.2) camera can also be found. While an 8-megapixel (f/2.2) camera is present on the front, inside that display cut out, that comes included with several AI-based beautification features and helps enable the handset’s face unlock feature. It is worth noting that the Y83 model launched in China came sans the fingerprint reader, which has been included in the Indian variant. Vivo has launched the phone sporting 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard memory that can be expanded via a dedicated microSD card slot. An octa-core MediaTek Helio P22 processor clocked at 2GHz powers the handset together with an IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The dual-SIM phone supports 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0, and comes pre-loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0. Weighing at 151 grams, the Android smartphone includes a battery of 3,260mAh capacity.

This launch comes a couple of days after the Vivo X21 was officially announced in the Asian market with a price tag of Rs. 35,990 (~$530). The X21 is the country’s first smartphone featuring an under-display fingerprint scanner. It comes powered by an upper mid-range Snapdragon 660 processor and a much more generous 128GB of internal memory paired with 6GB of RAM.
