About a week before its scheduled announcement, the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 has been confirmed to be an Amazon.in exclusive device in India. A page dedicated to the phone has already gone live on the retailer’s website with similar marketing images as previously teased by Xiaomi. The images highlight a few of its key features including a dual-camera setup, Snapdragon processor, and a rear-placed fingerprint scanner. Interested buyers can click on the ‘Notify Me’ button to stay informed about the device’s availability details. The said page on Amazon.in also reiterates the date when the phone will go official, i.e. Thursday, June 7, for which the Chinese company has already sent out invites to the local media outlets. Xiaomi is believed to rebrand the Redmi S2 to launch it as the Redmi Y2 in the Indian market at the upcoming event.

Earlier this week, the Redmi Y2 visited Geekbench benchmarking tool revealing a few of its specifications. In the listing, the smartphone came running Android 8.1 Oreo while sporting 3GB of RAM and an unknown octa-core Qualcomm SoC clocked at 2.02GHz. More of its specifications can be predicted considering the rumors of the phone being a repackaged variant of the Redmi S2 smartphone that was recently announced in China. The Redmi S2 was unveiled early last month featuring a taller 5.99-inch display with an HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. An octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset powers the handset together with 3GB/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of flash memory. Xiaomi may choose to bring both the variants to India, even though the Geekbench database lists only the base variant with 3GB of RAM. Besides a 3,080mAh battery, a dual-camera setup is also a part of the package with a rear-mounted 12-megapixel primary sensor paired with a 5-megapixel secondary one.

In China, the phone starts at 999 Yuan ($156) for the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Given Xiaomi’s history in the South Asian market, the Indian pricing of the phone will be close to this figure, if not less. With less than a week left for the launch, Xiaomi is expected to share more titbits about the phone in the meantime.
