In Short: Several months after the ASUS ROG Phone’s original announcement, ASUS North America has announced that the device will become available in the US soon. The company has announced, via its official Twitter account, that a press event will be hosted on October 18 in New York. In its Twitter post, the company only mentions the date, and the place where the event will be held, we still do not know the exact time when it will start. ASUS did, however, mentioned that “details will follow”, so we’ll probably get more info in the coming days.
Background: The ASUS ROG Phone was introduced back in June this year, and it is still not available for purchase. Well, that will change really soon, as the phone will almost certainly go on sale this month, this new event announcement pretty much confirms it. The ASUS ROG Phone is a gaming smartphone, ASUS very first one. This handset comes with three ultrasonic pressure-sensitive zones, it is water resistant, and it features ASUS’ ROG Gaming UI. The device’s display has a 90Hz refresh rate (1ms pixel response time), and we’re looking at an OLED panel here which supports HDR content. The ASUS ROG Phone offers a fullHD+ display, while the device also packs in a 4,000mAh battery, which supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ fast charging. The ASUS ROG Phone also features a set of stereo speakers, while a 3.5mm headphone jack is also a part of the package, and that is not surprising considering that this is a gaming smartphone. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC, while it packs in 8GB of RAM.
Impact: The ASUS ROG Phone’s price tag is still unknown, but if ASUS hits the mark on that one, this handset may actually become quite popular. The gaming community is getting larger by the day, and a number of gaming smartphones have seen some success already. The ASUS ROG Phone is well-equipped for a gaming smartphone, and even though it took the company quite a bit of time to bring it to market, the device may prove to be successful for ASUS, but we’ll see what will happen.
