TiVo has launched its new TiVo Edge streaming box. According to the company, the new box offers the ultimate experience for both cable subscribers and cord cutters alike.
The new TiVo box combines live and recorded TV, and even streaming content into one simple to use interface.
TiVo Edge is now available to pre-order with prices starting at $350.
Edge Is the ultimate box, says TiVo
TiVo is making a big play for the search capabilities with its new box. While many devices can combine sources of content, TiVo Edge takes the bundling of content to the next level.
This is mostly courtesy of the company’s OnePass solution. OnePass is designed to group the same content together regardless of the source. For example, if a season or two of a show is on Hulu or Netflix while the latest episodes are broadcast on live TV, using OnePass brings all of those episodes together, avoiding the need to switch apps or navigate the interface any more than you need to.
TiVo Edge is also able to skip the ads on those newly aired or recorded episodes as well. That’s not just skipping through, but skipping entirely.
Some of the other premium experience features include Dolby Vision 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos. As well as Android mobile and Amazon Alexa support.
Not one, but two TiVo Edge boxes to choose from
TiVo has actually launched two versions of the Edge box. One for cable subscribers and one for cord cutters.
Both versions are largely the same, boast the same premium features, and both come with a 2 TB hard drive. However, the cable one comes with a more seamless cable experience while the cord cutter version plays nicer with over-the-air content. For example, cord cutters can record over-the-air TV and have that integrated with the other features as well. For full use, the cord cutter version will require the additional purchase of an antenna.
TiVo Edge for cable costs $399.99, while TiVo Edge for antenna will set you back $349.99.
Beyond the purchase cost, there’s also a service plan buyers will need to agree to. This is especially true if you want to take advantage of the premium features, such as skipping ads. For cord cutters, the service plan costs $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. There’s also a ‘lifetime’ option in the form of a $249.99 one-time payment.
For cable buyers, the monthly cost is $14.99, the yearly cost is $149.99, and the all-in cost is $549.99
Both TiVo Edge for cable and TiVo Edge for antenna are available to pre-order now. Both versions are scheduled to ship on October 7.
