ASUS has started rolling out the Android 10 update for its 2018 flagship handset, the ZenFone 5Z. This update follows the update for the ZenFone 6/6Z that arrived earlier this month.

Not many people expected the ZenFone 5Z to follow this soon, but ASUS made it happen. This is a stable Android 10 update for the ZenFone 5Z, in case you were wondering.

The ZenFone 5Z received the Android 10 beta update late last month, so this update was definitely not expected. Users were expecting ASUS to deliver in December, at the earliest, but ASUS managed to surprise everyone.

This new update brings all the general Android 10 features that you may expect, along with some changes that ZenUI 6 bings.

Android 10 for the ZenFone 5Z removes quite a few ZenUI-specific features

ASUS had managed to clean up its ZenUI Android skin with Android 10 quite a bit, and it only builds upon that here. The company removed Page Marker, ZeniMoki, Selfie Master, Beauty Live, Kids Mode, Easy Mode, weather animation setting, AI charging, WebStorage, Go2 Pay, Report Location in Safeguard, and Yandex cloud option in File Manager. All these are ZenUI-related changes.

In terms of ZenUI, the company also moved Themes and Mobile Manager to Advanced Settings. Android 10 also brings upgraded APN settings to the ZenFone 5Z.

It is worth noting that ZenUI 6 is much closer to stock Android that ZenUI 5 was. ASUS cleaned up its skin quite a bit, which was first noticeable on the ZenFone 6 when it launched.

Well, the ZenFone 5Z brings such an experience as well, with an upgraded version of Android, nonetheless. ZenUI 6 actually even looks like stock Android, for the most part.

As part of the Android 10 update, you’ll get a system-wide dark theme. This is the same dark theme implementation that Google implemented. The same can be said for Android 10 navigation gestures, as they’re also a part of this update.

Native screen recorder and a one-hand mode are available here

ZenUI 6 does build upon Android 10 experience by adding a native screen recorder, which is not available on the Pixel phones. If you like to use a one-hand mode, that feature is included here as well.

ASUS’ Game Genie feature is available in the Settings, while you’ll find a number of additional options that are not available in stock Android builds.

News of this update surfaced on the company’s official website, well, its official forums. Regions were not mentioned, so we’re presuming that the update is rolling out to all unlocked global ZenFone 5Z units. Do note that the update is coming in batches, so it may take a while for it to reach your device.
