ASUS is back at CES 2020 with a new entry into its Chromebook Flip series, the ASUS Chromebook Flip C436. As with other recent devices in the series, the Flip C436 is built around a raised-back clamshell design that folds completely into a tablet as needed. It’s also among the first of ASUS’s Chromebooks to feature universal stylus support with up to 4,096 pressure-level sensitivity.

The overall aesthetic of the ASUS Chromebook Flip C436 is going to be familiar for any fans of the series. The company has held to its nano-edge display design for the 14-inch touch-enabled Chromebook. It’s also kept most of the design cues and slimmed things back on the build.

This laptop weighs in at just 2.4 lbs despite its magnesium alloy metal chassis and 13-inch diagonal measurement. It’s also right around 13.7mm thin, making for a sleek and striking aesthetic and allowing for a better in-hand feel. That translates over to usability too, thanks to the full-size backlit keyboard with 1.2mm of key travel.

The speakers here are Harmon Kardon-certified and all the ports a user could want are present and accounted for.

One key difference in the design this time around is in the colors available. ASUS is offering its Chromebook Flip in two hues — an iridescent Aerogel White or a stately transparent silver.

What’s on the inside is what counts with ASUS Chromebook Flip C436

The only internal component that doesn’t align well with the ‘bleeding edge’ mantra comes in the form of this device’s RAM. There, ASUS opted to utilize the older LPDDR3 variety. But the company is offering a staggering amount for a Chromebook. Buyers can pick up either an 8GB or 16GB variant. That’s coupled with up to 512GB of M.2 SSD storage.

Making use of that memory and storage, ASUS includes up to an Intel Core i7-10510U processor. That means that this Chrome OS convertible will get the work done and it will keep on doing so for up to 12-hours according to ASUS. That figure is backed by the company’s participation with this device in Intel’s Project Athena. So the numbers should be fairly accurate for most users’ day-to-day activities.

Tucked underneath all of that and taking advantage of the cloud nature of Chromebooks is another top-notch component aimed at making connectivity future-proof. Not only does the ASUS Chromebook Flip C436 pack in Bluetooth 5.0. It also delivers dual-band Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax. So this Chromebook will see faster speeds, reduced latency, and better use of bandwidth as long as users have access to a Wi-Fi 6-compatible router.
