ASUS has officially announced when the ZenFone 7 series will debut. Which is next week.

The ASUS ZenFone 7 series is going to be announced on August 26 at 2PM in Taiwan. That’s 6AM GMT and 2AM EST for those on the other side of the world.

With ASUS calling it the “ZenFone 7 series” we are expecting to see more than one device this time around. Last year, with the ZenFone 6, there was only a single smartphone, which was actually pretty impressive.

ZenFone 7 series has big shoes to fill

The ZenFone 6 was pretty popular for its price tag. It was almost like the new OnePlus smartphone, with a pretty low price tag, but high-end specs.

It sported the Snapdragon 855, 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It also had a 6.4-inch FHD+ display. But what was really impressive was the back camera. Not necessarily the sensor, but the fact that the back camera flips up to act as the front-facing sensor. Which is pretty neat.

This was priced at $499, which is pretty impressive, even if it did only come with 64GB of storage on-board. Though there was a micro SD card slot available.

What we’re expecting from ZenFone 7 series

We haven’t seen a whole lot of leaks about the ZenFone 7 series, other than the certifications it has already received.

But what we’re expecting from the ZenFone 7 is a 5,000mAh capacity battery, like its predecessor. It will also likely use 18W charging.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see it running a Snapdragon 865 chipset and it will support 5G networks. Since that’s something you basically have to have in 2020.

With ASUS announcing it so early in the morning for the western hemisphere, you can draw the conclusion that it may not be coming to the US or even Europe. The ZenFone 6 did come to the US, but with very little fanfare. In fact, most people probably didn’t know it was available in the US, but it was.

With smartphones pushing closer to that $1500 price point – like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is $1299 now –  it’s going to be nice to see a really decent smartphone for nearly a third of that price. Though we don’t expect to see it priced at $499 like its predecessor, since it is going to have 5G. And that is going to make the phone a lot more expensive, as we’ve seen with other smartphones released in 2020. Even OnePlus had to hike its prices pretty substantially this year.
