The PS5 is nearly here now that it’s only a few weeks away from its official launch, but if you aren’t happy with the white design you can change things up with these aftermarket faceplates.

The company, called PlateStation 5, seems to be a new company born for one purpose and one purpose only. Affording PS5 owners the opportunity to customize their shiny new consoles with a preferred color.

With that said there are some things to keep in mind here. As mentioned earlier, the aftermarket PS5 faceplates come from a company that is brand-new. So if you do decide to pre-order a faceplate, do so with caution as there could be a few things that go wrong.

For starters, you may not receive anything at all as this could simply be vaporware. The faceplates may not fit correctly. And judging by the 3D renders, they don’t sport the official PlayStation logo on the side like the white one on the console does. If you’re ok with all of that, give the options a peek. Because all things considered, they do look pretty good.

These aftermarket PS5 faceplates will cost you $40

In knowing that PlateStation 5 was set up within the last week, buying with caution is not a bad thing. In fact we’d urge you to use caution pretty heavily here.

If you’re willing to roll the dice and pre-order one of these so it shows up for your console on day one, then you can let go of $40 and have one shipped out. PlateStation 5 is claiming that the faceplates will show up on or before November 12, and shipping is free.

November 12 is the day of release for the PS5. So if you were able to snag a pre-order and it shows up on day one, then you can presumably swap out the panels on the side of the console right away. Assuming this shows up on time or shows up at all.

Sony showed that it was possible to take off the side panels during its teardown. So it’s very likely that it will eventually start offering official faceplates that you can buy. For now, these seem to be the only option.

There are five different colors to choose from

That people were a bit bummed that Sony isn’t releasing a black PS5 is a bit of an understatement. Many people like the white, but plenty of people have expressed their love for a non-existent black model.

And it may simply be Sony’s plan to release changeable panels with a black option down the road. If you’d rather not wait and see and are willing to try your hand with PlateStation 5, there are five different colors to choose from, including a limited edition matte black option.

In addition to a matte black there’s also cherry red, jungle camo, chromatic, and indigo blue. PlateStation 5 also says that while the prototype models of the plates are 3D printed, production models will be injection molded. If you care about any of that.
