Samsung is pushing yet another software update aimed at fixing the touchscreen issues on the Galaxy S20 FE. The latest update is currently rolling out to the Snapdragon 865 variants of the new budget flagship. The update comes with build number G781BXXU1ATK1 and the changelog clearly mentions improvements in the touch screen stability.

However, as per initial user reports, it still doesn’t entirely fix the issues. According to Redditor ingongingong, “the jittery scrolling still happens but less often”. The stuttering issue when zooming has also been fixed to some extent but it’s not entirely gone. Stuttering “still happens, but it’s smoother and better” than before.

The latest update also fails to fix the Galaxy S20 FE touchscreen issues

Early adopters of the Galaxy S20 FE has had to encounter a major problem with touchscreen responsiveness or lack thereof. Several users complained that the beautiful 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display would often register ghost touches or become unresponsive. The display also showed jittery movement when scrolling or zooming, making for an unpleasant user experience.

Samsung was quick to acknowledge the issue and has already released a couple of firmware updates in an attempt to address it. However, those firmware updates seemingly did little, and the company is now pushing a third consecutive update aimed at fixing the same problem.

Unfortunately, the latest update doesn’t entirely fix the issues either. Samsung does seem to have made some progress but it’s a big blunder from the company to let this sort of technical issue slip through internal quality tests. The fact that multiple software updates hardly change anything has made some users think this could be a hardware issue.

If this indeed is a hardware issue, then Samsung might have to recall the phone. And that would be really unfortunate given the company designed this phone as the recipe to success during the current global economic uncertainty.

That said, let’s hope for the best and wait for Samsung to try and fix the issue. The Galaxy S20 FE is a remarkable device baring this unfortunate blip. However, if you’re planning to get it, it’s better you wait some more time or look for alternatives.

The latest update weighs just around 200MB and also bundles the November 2020 Android security patch. As always, it will be a staged rollout and will not reach all eligible units simultaneously. You can check for updates manually through the Software update menu in the phone’s Settings app.
