Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 LTE Variants Certified By The FCC

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently certified the Galaxy Watch 5 series, clearing the new Samsung smartwatches for launch in the US. We spotted three model numbers: SM-900, SM-910, and SM-920. The first two are likely the 40mm and 44mm size variants of the vanilla Galaxy Watch 5. The latter, meanwhile, should be the Pro model, which will reportedly come in a 46mm size. The regulatory body has now approved three more models: SM-R905, SM-R915, and SM-R925. These are the cellular (LTE) variants of the same three smartwatches.

The latest sighting on the FCC database, first spotted by MySmartPrice, doesn’t reveal any notable new information. But the last time around, it did create some confusion regarding the charging speed. The listing showed the Galaxy Watch 5 charger (model number ER-OR900) to boast 10W charging (5V, 2A). Of course, faster charging is a nice upgrade to have. Samsung’s smartwatches have been charging at 5W speeds for the longest.

But the confusion here is that FCC had previously certified the same charger with a 5W output capacity. We hope the newer certification reflects the updated info and that the Galaxy Watch 5 series does support 10W charging speeds. The Pro model certainly needs this boost. Reports suggest this wearable will pack a massive 572mAh battery. Samsung has removed the iconic rotating bezel and focused less on the aesthetics of the device for the sake of a bigger power unit. At 5W speeds, it may take forever to charge from 0 to 100 percent.

The smaller two Galaxy Watch 5 variants are also getting bigger batteries than previous models. So it’d be nice if Samsung complements these upgrades with faster charging support. Fingers crossed we will get 10W charging across the board.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series will bring other upgrades

Poor battery life has been one of the biggest complaints with Samsung’s smartwatches. The company is now looking to address the issue with bigger batteries in the upcoming models. In addition, the new smartwatches will also bring other upgrades. Updated processors and improved Wear OS software should be part of the package. The Pro model is also rumored to get premium materials such as titanium body and sapphire glass.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series is expected to go official on August 10. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldables should also break cover on the same day. Perhaps the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 too. We should get a confirmation from Samsung soon.
