Google Play turned ten years old this year and the company is celebrating the milestone with a new logo. Unveiled by Google Play VP Tian Lim earlier today, the new logo has been already appearing in some Google products. The company has also announced a boost to Google Play Points to commemorate this occasion.

Google Play gets a new logo

Google rebranded the “Android Market” as Google Play in March 2012. In March this year, the service completed ten years without another rebranding, which is rare for many Google products. The company is famous for the frequent re-naming of its products and services. Nonetheless, to mark a decade of Play, the tech giant has introduced a new logo.

The updated logo sees a minor design tweak over the current one. It still features a triangular shape but the vertices are more rounded than before. The internal partitions are also adjusted such that each part looks equal in size. Earlier, the blue part was significantly bigger than the green, red, and yellow ones.

Google has also changed the shades of the four colors that constitute the Play logo. The shades are now darker than before but less vibrant. Perhaps this is a change in line with other Google products. The Chrome logo also got a similar redesign with darker shades. Google Play is finally catching up with the rest of its family members.

The new Google Play logo “better reflects the magic of Google and matches the branding shared by many of our helpful products — Search, Assistant, Photos, Gmail, and more,” said Lim in a blog post.

As mentioned earlier, the updated logo has been appearing in some Google products for the past several weeks. Most notably, it was spotted inside GPay and Google Pay. Now that the company has made it official, we might soon see it replace the current logo in other places as well, including the Play Store icon. Watch out for a duller Play Store icon on your app drawer in the coming days.

Google offers 10x points on Play purchases

Over the past decade, Google Play has grown to serve more than 2.5 billion people in over 190 countries every month. The platform also has over two million developers on board. Its Google Play Points program, which rewards users for making purchases on the platform, also now boasts more than 100 million members.

To celebrate the new milestone, Google is offering 10x points on all Play purchases. This points booster will be available in all regions where the Play Points program exists. But the start dates will vary. You can check the dates for your region from the “Earn” tab of Play Points Home.
