Samsung is all set to address one of the biggest complaints with its Flip series clamshell foldables this year, as the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will come with a lot bigger cover display. CAD renders of the phone recently visualized the redesigned exterior of the new foldable. The 3.4-inch display on the outside has a folder-like shape to make room for the two rear cameras. But if you’re not a fan of this unusual design, Samsung may have got you covered.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will probably feature a black panel on the top half of its backside. It will help hide the folder-shaped cover display when it’s not lit up.
Galaxy Z Flip 5 folder-shaped cover display won’t be a nuisance all the time
Samsung’s past two generations of clamshell foldables featured a 1.9-inch display on the outside. The tiny screens fit easily on the side of the vertically-stacked dual camera setup. The company covered this portion of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 4’d backside with a black panel to hide the display when not in use. It looks like the phones have a strip of black glass at the top.
It is a no-brainer for Samsung to keep this black panel on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 as well. However, the recently leaked CAD renders of the upcoming foldable didn’t show anything as such. The cover display is shown lit up on all renderings of the phone. The designer’s plan was likely to show the big cover display of the device. However, the folder-shaped design sometimes looks odd. Unsurprisingly, some fans aren’t fond of it.
They may rejoice to learn that the renders could be inaccurate. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 should get a black panel covering the whole of its upper backside. As such, the folder-like look of its cover display won’t be a nuisance all the time. The folks over at SamMobile have made a video visualizing what the new foldable could look like from the back when the cover display is not lit up. Rumors have it that Samsung will launch its 2023 foldables about 2-3 weeks earlier than usual. We are hearing about a late July unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. If these rumors turn out to be accurate, we should soon start seeing official renders and even real-world images of the new foldables. We will keep you posted accordingly.
