The Galaxy Z Flip 5 may give users access to a full keyboard on its cover display. Leaked images show that the new Samsung foldable will also show widgets on its secondary screen. You can also use optimized versions of several popular Android apps without unfolding the device.

Samsung’s Flip series clamshell foldable lineup is getting a much-needed upgrade this year. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a notably bigger cover display — a 3.4-inch squarish screen with a folder-shaped cut. The last two models had a rectangular 1.9-inch display on the outside.

A bigger cover screen means you can do a lot of tasks without opening the Flip. Previous leaks suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will allow users to use apps like Google Maps, Google Messages, and YouTube on its external display. You also get a full-fledged camera app, making it possible to capture quality images while keeping the phone closed.

This is in addition to existing abilities of checking and responding to notifications and controlling various system settings and functions. A fresh leak now reveals that you can reply to messages from the cover display with ease. The Galaxy Z Flip 5’s secondary screen will support a full keyboard, making it possible to type out your replies.

Additionally, the leaked images (which were shared on Twitter by reliable tipster Roland Quandt but have been taken down since) reveal that the device will support widgets for the weather app, Samsung Wallet, calendar, call logs, and a custom photo widget that shows the time and date. It will probably let you use other third-party apps as well.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will fold gapless

A bigger cover display isn’t the only upgrade the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will bring to the table. Samsung has redesigned the hinge for its foldables smartphones this year to allow them to fold gapless. The two halves of the devices will fold shut without leaving a gap. Leaked dummy models of the new Flip recently showed a tiny gap, but the latest leak doesn’t show any.

The images shared by Quandt also show the Galaxy Z Flip 5 unfolded in various angles, aka Flex Mode. There have been rumors that the redesigned hinge may affect the Flex Mode, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Not a long wait now before the new Samsung foldable is official. The company will launch it alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and Galaxy Watch 6 series on July 26.
