After a relatively slow start, Samsung is now expeditiously rolling out the October update to Galaxy devices. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the latest model to pick up this month’s security patch. It joins the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy A54 at the party. More eligible models will follow in the coming days.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is now getting Samsung’s October update

Unlike other Galaxy devices named above, the October security update for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 isn’t available in the US. The 2021 clamshell foldable is initially picking up the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) in Latin America. Samsung has already rolled out the update in Colombia, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, and Trinidad and Tobago. The new firmware build number for the phone is F711BXXS6FWI1.

Samsung will expand the rollout of this update to more markets, including the US, over the next couple of weeks. However, don’t expect anything big. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 isn’t getting any new features or improvements here. The Korean firm is only pushing the latest security fixes to the device. Samsung has already revealed that the October SMR contains 46 vulnerability patches.

As usual, this includes Android OS fixes and Galaxy-specific fixes, which don’t exist on Android devices from other companies. Some of the vulnerabilities pose a greater threat than others, potentially allowing a remote attacker to gain access to your phone without requiring any action from you. Install the October update on your Galaxy Z Flip 3 and other Galaxy devices to stay safe from all of these vulnerabilities.

If you have been using a Samsung phone for the past few years, you might already be familiar with the process of installing software updates. You should get a notification once the OTA (over the air) rollout hits your unit. Tap on the notification and follow the on-screen instructions to update your phone. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Software update > Download and install to manually trigger the process.

Samsung phones will get a much bigger update in the coming months

The latest update for your Galaxy Z Flip 3 may not contain anything more than security patches, there’s a bigger update in the pipeline. Samsung is readying Android 14-based One UI 6.0 for your foldable and other eligible models. It might begin the rollout as early as this month, with the Galaxy S23 series leading the line. Other models will follow shortly, though some lower-cost ones may have to wait until 2024. Stick around for more information.
