Google has announced that it is expanding YouTube Premium and Music Premium to 10 more countries. This will make the YouTube and Music premium subscription available to a total of 110 regions. Among the 10 countries, three countries — Ghana, Kenya, and Senegal — have already availed the services starting December 5. The rest will be getting in the coming days.
Google expands YouTube and Music Premium to 10 more countries
Google is expanding its YouTube and Music premium subscription to over 10 new countries including Algeria, Cambodia, Georgia, Ghana, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Tunisia, and Senegal, as first spotted and reported by folks at 9to5Google. Notably, YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium subscriptions, including the bundle, come at an extra price for iOS users than Android users.
More importantly, we earlier reported that Google is increasing the subscription fee for grandfathered users — those who availed the subscription during YouTube Red and Google Play Music days — effective January 2024. Hence, the most loyal subscribers will have to pay $13.99 per month on Android or $18.99 per month on iOS. With this shift, the YouTube Premium family plan’s monthly price stayed the same. But the annual price jumped $20 making it to $139.99. The company first began notifying users about this price hike earlier this month.
YouTube has introduced quite a few features for its premium users, including expanded access to 1080p streaming. So, it’s no longer an iOS exclusive. It has also brought “Continue Watching” reminders to tablets and TVs. Plus, Premium members get early dibs on experimental features.
Moreover, YouTube Premium comes with a slew of features. You get to watch videos without interruption (and ads), including video overlay and third-party banners. Additionally, you have the option to download videos for offline viewing. What’s more, you can play videos in the background and utilize Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode to watch videos simultaneously while using other apps.
