Samsung unveiled a slew of features under the Galaxy AI name during its most recent Unpacked event, and they’re what really make the Galaxy S24 series stand out. Samsung plans to bring the Galaxy AI features to some of its older devices, but only a few of them will actually get the features. According to a new report, Galaxy AI features may not be making it to the Galaxy S22 series.

Samsung announced a ton of new AI features during Unpacked, and here’s a rundown of all the features announced. These features include text translation, text generation, Etc. If you are excited about these features, why not put in an order for the Galaxy S24? The pre-order window is closing, so you’ll want to get your order in as soon as possible. In fact, some users are actually receiving their devices early. Check out the link below to put in your order.

The Galaxy S22 series may not get Galaxy AI

Samsung’s Head of Customer Experience, Patrick Chomet spoke to Techradar about the company’s Galaxy AI rollout. Obviously, the Galaxy S24 series will come with these features on board, but the company does plan on distributing these features to older models. These models include the Galaxy S23 series (including the Galaxy S23 FE), Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Tab S9 series. If you notice something about these devices, these are all devices released just last year.

This, unfortunately, excludes devices released in 2022. When asked why the company isn’t trickling these AI features down to the Galaxy S22 series, Chomet responded that even loading the features on a Galaxy S24 series “was so much work .” In another statement,  he said “We know that Galaxy AI works well on the Galaxy S24 series and we know it will work well on [the Galaxy S23 series]. But we don’t know what the intensity of AI usage will be for the average customer, and [therefore how that] intensity will impact on-device resources and cloud resources.”

From the sounds of it, he seems concerned that the chips powering the Galaxy S22 series won’t be powerful enough to perform on-device generative AI. This makes sense, as this was before the huge AI boom. So, the chips powering these devices weren’t made with on-device AI in mind. Simply, the chips may be too weak to use these features.

Does this mean that it will never come to these phones?

Chomet issued another statement that that’s really how to pay close attention to. He said, “For now, we’re limiting Galaxy AI to last-gen devices.” Note how he said, “for now.” This possibly means that Samsung has plans to bring these features to the older devices, but it’s just trying to figure out how to do so. The Galaxy AI features should be landing on last generation’s devices sometime in the first half of the year. After that, there’s no telling if the company will turn its attention to the Galaxy S22 phones.

Only time will tell if Samsung manages to pull it off.
