Samsung‘s February 2024 security update is rolling out to a bunch of Galaxy smartphones. The company has released the latest security patch for the global version of the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy A71, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A15 5G, and Galaxy M33. It has already updated all other eligible flagship and premium mid-range models to the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release).

The February update is rolling out to more Samsung Galaxy devices

The February SMR for the Galaxy S21 FE was first released in the US. Samsung recently started pushing it to the global version. Depending on the region and processor variant (the phone came with Exynos and Snapdragon processors), the firmware build number will vary. However, the content of the update remains unchanged. The device is getting the latest security fixes and that is all. There are no additional changes.

The same goes for all other devices. Samsung recently updated eligible models to Android 14 and One UI 6.0, so it isn’t rolling out another feature update just yet. Devices not eligible for Android 14 won’t receive feature updates anymore. So, the latest release is all about this month’s security fixes. There are 69 of them, including three critical Android OS patches from Google and eight Galaxy fixes from Samsung.

The new build number for the Galaxy A71 is A716BXXS9FXA1. It is A516BXXS8FXA1 for the Galaxy A51 and A156EDXU1AXB8 for the Galaxy A15 5G (its 4G version doesn’t seem to have received the update yet). For the Galaxy M33, the new SMR comes with firmware version M335BUXXS6DXB1. As of this writing, these updates are rolling out in select markets. A global rollout shouldn’t be too far off, though.

While it’s only getting the new security fixes for other devices, the Galaxy A15 5G also appears to be picking up some system stability and reliability improvements. This is a standard practice from Samsung. It pushes these kinds of stability updates to new devices within the first few months of its launch. The budget handset debuted in December 2023 alongside its 4G sibling, though a global release came in January this year.

One UI 6.1 will be the next major feature update for Galaxy devices

A major new feature update for Galaxy devices is on the horizon, at least for flagships and recent mid-range models. Samsung is preparing to push One UI 6.1 to them. The new One UI version debuted with the Galaxy S24 series last month. It brings new AI features, most of which will be available to older models depending on compatibility. The rollout is expected to begin in March, so stay tuned.
