Apple is set to launch the Apple Watch Series 10 this Fall, and so the rumor mill is churning with plenty of leaks and rumors about the upcoming smartwatch. This includes a new rumor that could really improve the battery life of the smartwatch.
According to The Elec, Apple is going to be using a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistor (TFT) technology in the OLED display of the Series 10. So far, LTPO TFT has only been applied to some switching TFTs in the display panel. However, with this new version, LTPO will be used on more of the TFTs, including the driving TFTs.
So, what does this have to do with battery life? Well, it would make the display a lot more power efficient, which can extend battery life. Since the first Apple Watch was released, Apple has stuck to the same 18-hour battery life despite adding features, more batteries, and more efficient chipsets. So it’s unclear whether we might actually see a huge increase in battery life or not, but that would be great to see.
Apple Watch Series 10 is likely to receive a huge redesign
It’s pretty incredible to see that the Apple Watch is about to be in its tenth generation. The first Apple Watch launched in 2015 and basically took over the world. When the iPhone hit 10, Apple did a significant redesign. Slimming the bezels considerably, getting rid of the physical home button for gestures, and also adding the notch for Face ID. We’re expecting something similar for the Apple Watch 10th anniversary.
Don’t expect a new shape, however. Rumors are pointing towards Apple making the watch thinner with a slimmer casing and a different way to attach bands. The latter is a pretty big deal, actually. Apple opted for magnets for attaching bands, which would free up more space inside the watch that could be used for other things, like a larger battery.
The Apple Watch Series 10 is set to debut this Fall, likely in September, alongside the iPhone 16.
