Apple introduced its latest iPads including the new iPad Air and the iPad Pro earlier this month. The new iPad Pro is the Cupertino tech giant’s most powerful tablet to date, thanks to the Apple M4 chipset. Notably, the new iPad Pro is also the company’s slimmest product yet. While Apple claims the new iPad Pro is as strong as the previous model, people have doubts about its structural integrity.

However, Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything YouTube channel put the new 13-inch iPad Pro through the bend test, and the device holds ground surprisingly well…almost.

The 5.1mm thick 13-inch iPad Pro holds its ground surprisingly well in the bend test

The new Apple iPad Pro comes in two screen size variants, including 11-inch and 13-inch. The 13-inch iPad Pro measures just 5.1mm around the waist, while the 11-inch variant is slightly thicker (5.3mm). In JerryRigEverything’s bend test, the super-slim 13-inch iPad Pro holds up surprisingly very well when bent horizontally. Notably, the YouTuber mentioned the new slim iPad Pro has “black magic levels of structural integrity”.

When the YouTuber bends the device vertically, it breaks in the middle, but not so easily. The video shows that the iPad Pro breaks at the charging point. It appears that the back side of the USB Type-C charging port puts some pressure on the inner side of the glass, which cracks it from the bottom edge. Still, the 13-inch iPad Pro is surprisingly durable for its super-slim design as breaking it in half took quite a bit of effort.

Apple has added a “central spine” to the iPad Pro to increase its durability

Apple has added a “central spine” in the middle of the new iPad Pro to enhance the tablet’s durability. In the vertical bend test, the slate refuses to break from the center, thanks to the “central spine”, and only cracks from the bottom at the charging port. Overall, it appears that the new iPad Pro is a durable tablet, but it is not invincible.

While it’s common for super-slim slates to bend a little bit over the course of time and use, you can rest assured that the new iPad Pro won’t crack noticeably with normal everyday use.

If you are planning to buy the new iPad Pro, its 11-inch variant starts at $999. The 13-inch model of the slate, on the other hand, carries a starting price tag of $,1299. The new Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard accessories for the tablet can be purchased separately.
