Google is reshuffling the Play Store Teams too

Google is combining the Android Developer Experience, Google Play, and Ecosystem Trust teams. The purpose of this is to improve the end-to-end experience for Android app developers, with the combined team being led by Sam Bright, who is the current Vice President and General Manager of Google Play.

This isn’t the first reshuffling we have seen from Google this year. Back in April, it announced that it was reshuffling its hardware and software teams, and creating a new “Platforms and Devices” team that is led by Rick Osterloh. This was done so that the company could double-down on AI, and Google could also utilize the “full-stack innovation when necessary.”

Bright told the Android Faithful podcast “we formed this new team, this Play plus developer ecosystem team, and really what it’s seeking to solve is we want to support developers across their entire app lifecycle, whether it’s building and testing apps, it’s releasing and updating them, it’s acquiring users, it’s engaging users, it’s re-engaging users, it’s retaining users, it’s helping them monetize, all supported by keeping the platform safe so that users and developers can connect and feel like they have a really positive experience.”

This will help make the Google Play Store a more attractive option for developers

While most apps are available on Android and iOS already, there are still quite a few that are iOS only. And Google obviously wants to change that. With these changes, that would help make the Play Store a more attractive destination for developers to host their apps. And now that the EU is forcing Apple to allow other app stores, it likely won’t be long before Google is forced to do the same – though it is already possible.

In the end, this should not change much for users. If anything, this should bring about better and new apps to Android.
