Motorola Razr+ (2023) vs Motorola Razr+ (2024): Camera Comparison

It’s no secret that one of the biggest drawbacks of Motorola phones (for many years now) is the camera. This year, with the Motorola Razr (2024), the company talked a lot about how much better the cameras were compared to last year. So, after picking up my review devices, I decided to take the new Razr+ out with the old Razr+ in New York City and take pictures side-by-side to see if it was a good upgrade or not.

I first noticed immediately that the Razr+ (2024) is more vibrant and brighter. While some colors looked better on the Razr+ (2023), the colors were more natural on the Razr+ (2024), which I feel is more important. Here are a handful of pictures taken from around Rockefeller Center. The difference between the two is noticeable in the picture of Radio City Music Hall, where the colors are more accurate versus being slightly washed out on the Razr+ (2023). In just about every photo with the Pride flags on display, the Razr+ (2023) tends to wash out the colors a bit, while the Razr+ (2024) is a much more accurate and pleasing picture.

The new Razr+ is sharper and more natural

With the new Razr+, Motorola has upgraded the camera sensor quite a bit. Jumping from a 12-megapixel primary camera to a 50-megapixel main camera does provide us with a whole lot more detail. That also makes photos sharper, and that’s very clear in the comparison photos below.

For example, if we look at the display of Hershey’s chocolate from the Hershey’s store in Times Square, the lights around “World’s Largest” are much sharper on the Razr+ (2024) versus the 2023 model. Another example of this is looking at the “Gotham News”; while the Razr+ (2023) is brighter, the Razr+ (2024) is more natural and sharper. Finally, the Sauce Pizzeria sign, while the Razr+ (2023) does look better and potentially sharper, the Razr+ (2024) sample here is actually more life-like. The red is the same color on the inside and outside, unlike what the Razr+ (2023) is showing.

Basically, what we’re seeing with the new Razr+ (2024) this year is that it’s a pretty good upgrade to the camera, but it’s not going to beat out any of the camera powerhouses out there from Google, OnePlus, OPPO, or Vivo. But for most people, it’s going to be perfectly fine. Of course, you can expect many more photo samples in our full review in the next few weeks.
