Apple has announced the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series of phones. There weren’t a whole lot of surprises this time around, as just about everything leaked ahead of time.

First, lets talk about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. These two new iPhones get new and vibrant colors. Making up for the super muted colors that the iPhone 15 had last year. They’re still available in 6.1 and 6.7-inch displays. And it also comes with the new Camera Control button, which is not being called the Capture button. This button can be used to take pictures with the camera, zoom, and even use Visual Intelligence (Apple’s take on Google Lens).

The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus run on the A18 chipset, making the leap over A17 as the previous model was on A16. This upgrade means some pretty massive performance gains over the iPhone 15. Apple says that the A18 chipset offers up to 30% faster CPU performance compared to the A16.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus start on Friday for $799 and $899, respectively, with 128GB of storage. They will start shipping on September 20.

Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro series brings bigger displays, bigger batteries, same price

Moving onto the Pro models, we’re looking at larger displays this year. That’s 6.3-inches on the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9-inches on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple also noted that all of the iPhone 16 models have bigger batteries this year. But per usual, did not mention the battery sizes. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max do have the best battery life in an iPhone.

The Pro models gain the A18 Pro chipset inside, which is 15% faster than the A17 Pro and uses 20% less energy. Which should also help improve the battery life this year. It’s being manufactured on a second-generation 3nm process.

Onto the cameras, Apple did upgrade the ultrawide to a 48-megapixel sensor this year. It is also adding 4K120 video capture, which can be used for regular video capture, or in slow-motion. Apple is also allowing you to change the frame-rate after you record it. Going all the way down to 24fps. Photographic Styles have also been upgraded this year, from the ground up. Apple says that this is like having professional color-grading right in your hand.

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max go up for pre-order on Friday, at $999 and $1,199 respectively. The iPhone 16 Pro starts at 128GB and the Pro Max at 256GB. These will also start shipping on September 20.
