Samsung‘s new Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 are now upon us. And while a lot of things about these two foldables are not surprising, there’s one thing that is. And that’s the charging speed.

So how fast are these two devices going to charge? Well, Samsung is sticking with 25W wired charging on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5. Interestingly, even though both phones have different sized batteries, Samsung is claiming that you’ll get a 50% charge in 30 minutes on both.

Now, when it comes to wireless charging, we’re looking at 15W. That’s the same as the previous generation, and is also quite slow along with the wired charging speed. Finally, it has 4.5W reverse wireless charging. This is really only useful for charging your watch or earbuds on the go. Since it’s going to take juice from your Galaxy Z Flip 5 or Fold 5, and charges fairly slow.

When will Samsung adopt faster charging?

Since the issues with the battery on the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung has been fairly reluctant to add in larger batteries and allow faster charging. It has pretty much stuck with 25W charging across its portfolio. Though it did use 45W on the “Ultra” models for a little bit, it did nix that recently.

However, there are rumors that the Galaxy S24 Plus and Ultra models next year could use 65W charging, and that’s due to Samsung using a stacked battery in those phones. Apple is also rumored to be doing the same thing with the iPhone 15 later this year.

For the relatively small batteries on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, the 25W charging is likely going to be plenty fast. Remember the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 3700mAh capacity battery, and a 4400mAh capacity battery on the Galaxy Z Fold 5. So they aren’t enormous batteries like the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
