Meanwhile Labour has picked up Sittingbourne and Sheppey, also from the Conservatives.

Let's go up to Teesside Airport now, where we have just seen pictures of Rishi Sunak about to board a plane back to London.

In the last hour, he has conceded defeat to Labour after a "sobering" night for the Tories.

We'll hear more from Sunak later this morning.

Liam Fox, who has held several cabinet roles, has narrowly lost North Somerset to Labour.

Labour's Sadik Adam Al-Hassan won 19,138 votes to Fox's 18,499.

Congratulations for Sir Keir Starmer have started to arrive from overseas.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has lauded the "resounding" victory earned by his "friend".

Israeli President Isaac Herzog sent his congratulations to Keir Starmer on his success in the general election.

In a statement posted on X, external, Herzog says Israel will work with Starmer and his new government to "return the abductees to their homes, create a better future for the region, and continue and strengthen the close friendship between Israel and Great Britain",

He also expressed his gratitude to Rishi Sunak for "his leadership and standing by the State of Israel, especially during this difficult time".

• North West Cambridgeshire changes hands from Tory to Labour
• And the Lib Dems take Henley and Thame from the Conservatives

The BBC's Ros Atkins is still at a leisure centre in Norfolk, waiting to find out whether Liz Truss has retained her seat of South West Norfolk.

He tells Radio 4 and 5 Live that the count is approaching its end. Labour is feeling "confident", but the Conservatives have said it is "very close".

"There is tension in the air because we do not know - despite the fact that Liz Truss was PM less than two years ago, despite the fact that she's defending an enormous majority, well over 20,000 - we do not know if she's going to hold onto her seat."

Leader of the Scottish Conservatives Douglas Ross has narrowly lost his North and Moray East seat to the SNP.

SNP candidate Seamus Logan won 13,455 votes to Ross's 12,513.

There's been a deluge of results coming through over the last 15 minutes or so - here's a quick rundown of some of the seats that have changed hands.

Labour has gained a number of seats:

• Spen Valley from the Conservatives
• Macclesfield from the Conservatives
• Monmouthshire from the Conservatives
• Dunfermline and Dollar from the SNP
• Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket from the Conservatives
• Chipping Barnet from the Conservatives
• Hitchin from the Conservatives
• St Austell and Newquay from the Conservatives

And the Liberal Democrats have also picked up seats, including:

• Frome and East Somerset from the Conservatives
• Esher and Walton from the Conservatives
• North East Fife from the SNP
• Aberdeenshire North and Moray East from the Conservatives

Labour's Yvette Cooper tells Radio 4 and 5 Live "It does feel quite emotional to see across the country so many people now putting their trust in Labour again.

"If you had told me in 2019 in that December election that this would happen, I would not have believed you.

"That is why I just pay huge tribute to what Keir Starmer has done and the work to turn the Labour party around."

With all the seats declared in Wales, the Tories have lost every single one they were defending, taking them back to the zero seats to which they fell in 1997.

The SNP's Westminster leader Stephen Flynn says his party has been "swept aside by the Starmer tsunami".

His colleagues are "losing seats right across Scotland", Flynn says.

Flynn held onto his Aberdeen South seat, winning 15,213 votes. In second place was Labour, with 11,455.

So far, the Conservatives have lost 173 seats. In 124 of these, the Reform vote was greater than the margin of the Conservatives' defeat.

Of these seats, 99 were won by Labour, 19 by the Lib Dems, two by nationalists, and four by Reform themselves.

Of course, not everybody who voted Reform would have otherwise voted Conservative, but they most certainly voted Conservative in 2019.

These statistics underline the extent to which the heavy loss of Conservative votes to Reform has cost Sunak's party dear.
