How many leather jackets does Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang own? An investigation into the billionaire's cool signature look.
- Nvidia's billionaire CEO rocks a black leather jacket almost everywhere he goes.
- He wore at least six different jackets in recent years, per Business Insider's detailed analysis.
- His latest look, from Tom Ford's spring collection, is his best pick yet.
Steve Jobs wore a black turtleneck. Mark Zuckerberg ushered in the casual T-shirt. Adam Neumann eschewed shoes.
Tech's current king, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, long ago chose a black leather jacket as his signature look. He's worn leather jackets for at least 20 years, a spokeswoman told The New York Times last year.
The billionaire has previously said his wife and daughter dress him, and true to form, he sported a black leather jacket on the cover of Time Magazine in 2021.
At Nvidia's much-heralded artificial intelligence conference GTC this week, Huang gave the keynote speech in his all-black, cool-dad look. The jacket he wore looks like it comes from Tom Ford's spring 2023 collection, and it retails for $8,990. Thankfully, Huang styled his 'fit with less exposed chest than Ford's model.
Huang previously said the all-black uniform reduces his decision-making needs. Even so, he has swapped out the leather when the occasion demands it, opting for a red floral vest in China earlier this year and suits in lawmaker meetings.
Business Insider combed through recent photos to answer one pressing question: Just how many jackets does Huang have? We spotted six jackets Huang has worn since 2017 and ranked them below in order of coolness. A Nvidia spokesman declined to comment about how many jackets sit in Huang's wardrobe, so this could well be an undercount. And with Nvidia's stock climbing — Bloomberg estimates Huang's wealth at $78.8 billion — there's no telling how many more he might purchase.
#6: Plain leather, oversized collar
Nothing wrong with this dad look, from a June conference in 2023.
The plain leather pales in comparison to Huang's other picks, though.
#5: Buttoned pockets give some flair
Standard jacket, a little more modern than the first pick. Plenty of space in the pockets for Nvidia's ambitions. Huang wore this number at a November conference in Taipei.
#4: Café racer with pads
Now we're getting interesting! This jacket offers the perfect padding to carry the weight of new products, the stock market, and the tech industry's future on your shoulders. Huang wore this jacket at one of the tech industry's biggest conferences, CES, in Las Vegas in 2018.
#3: Getting into texture
This jacket got some play on stages from New York to Napa, California. The zippered cuff allows for some airflow as the spotlight intensifies next to other stars: Huang wore this jacket at an event with Reid Hoffman in November and, above, at the 2023 Amazon Web Services conference in Las Vegas with AWS CEO Adam Selipsky.
It's a bold step into texture for Huang, but don't worry – there's more to come.
#2: Smooth lines for a smooth guy
A more updated collar and modern style than #6, this jacket is ready to coast into happy hour or an investor meeting. Huang wore this jacket for Nvidia's 2017 conference keynote.
Compared with the other café racer, this jacket's zippered pockets add function and style.
#1: Tom Ford in a stadium
This jacket combines the best of all of Huang's prior looks.
He wore this jacket before this week's huge AI conference and sported the same coat in Taipei in January. The jacket's sharp, clean lines and embossed leather (not another animal skin) told the stadium audience what they already knew: Huang's got it going on.
