A few weeks ago, I made a post about people's weirdest, funniest, and most awkward celeb run-in stories. And there were a ton of comments with even MORE hilarious stories about times people met a celebrity! So without further ado, here are some of those stories:
1. "My friend was in charge of Brooke Shields' backstage itinerary when she spoke at a fundraiser in my town. Randomly, I wrote Brooke a letter thanking her for contributing her time to such a worthy cause and gave it to my friend prior to the event, telling her if she didn't feel comfortable passing it along, I totally understood. Halfway through the event, my friend texted that Brooke was touched by my note and to meet them backstage. I was greeted with the warmest hug and genuine conversation."
2. "Lily Collins is beyond sweet! Met her at a Renaissance festival in southern California. She knew me and my BFF spotted her. She came up to us, shook our hands, introduced herself, complimented us, and we got pics with her. Beautiful and kind. And very short."
3. "I was a seat filler at the MTV movie awards like 15 years ago. Elliott Page was there, and seemed uncomfortable with the attention he got. Paris Hilton was actually really nice. And Rihanna is stunningly gorgeous in real life. Like, even more so than in photos."
4. "Back in early 1984 I was working for the railway and was travelling by train in London on three consecutive nights. I noticed a woman with a 'shock' of hair travelling with a man who I noted had an Australian accent. On the third night, I plucked up courage during my ticket check to ask if she was Tina Turner. Now bearing in mind she had been out of the limelight for several years, there was some momentarily shock as she told me she didn't think anyone would recognise her nowadays."
5. "I'm one of the very few people with a personalized autograph from John Candy, as he rarely gave autographs, let alone personalized ones. He was famously an extremely humble man, and I'm guessing it made him uncomfortable to get that kind of attention."
6. "I was at Starbucks waiting for my drink and Amy Poehler came in to pick up hers. I'm guessing she pre-ordered. I wanted to say hi, but she did NOT look happy, so I left her alone."
7. "Used to live about a block from the Toronto International Film Festival. My husband took the dog for a walk one morning and said, 'I just had the weirdest thing happen — a girl poked her head out of an SUV and yelled at me from across the street about how cute Walter is, and wanted me to come over, but when I did there was a big bodyguard-looking guy in the car with her giving me stink-eye, but she was so excited to pet Walter and kept gushing about how cute he is. And she was like in full-glam makeup, at 9am.' It was Jessica Chastain."
8. "Simu Liu was a student in my class in grade 10. Just your average Toronto kid. Sometimes he comes back to visit the school and the kids love it."
9. "I was smoking outside of a karaoke bar in Santa Monica with my brother in 2005. I turned and saw Sam Rockwell standing near me. I went up and told him about my huge love for Galaxy Quest (one of the best movies). He was so kind and gracious. He asked what my and my brother's names were. He then introduced us to his group of friends which included Justin Long and Jonah Hill, who were both equally kind."
10. "Elizabeth Berkeley came into our store and I just thought, 'That is a beautiful woman, OMG.' And then I realized it was her. She talked with one of the cashiers when they mentioned Showgirls. She was so nice. Didn't even mind chatting with us."
11. "I worked at a shoe store in my early 20s, and Neil Diamond came in with his assistant. His assistant told me, 'Mr. Diamond does not want you to speak with him or look him in the eye.' It pissed me off, so I stared at him the whole time he was there. He didn't buy anything and looked flustered that I looked at him. What an ass."
12. "I was an extra in Marley and Me when it was shot at Hollywood Beach in Florida. The actors were in between takes, so we all took a water break. I reached in the cooler at the same time as Eric Dane. He was unbelievably handsome and soooo kind. He talked to me for like 10 minutes!"
13. "I was at a motocross event in Hollywood, FL when I was a kid in like 1999. I was riding in the back of a golf cart and fell off of it and a nice guy offered me his hand and helped me up. It was Vanilla Ice."
14. "When I lived on Martha's Vineyard, I ran into Meg Ryan and John Mellencamp in the Stop & Shop (chain of grocery stores). They both seemed super introverted, and they were clueless, so I asked Meg if she needed some help. She asked me how to use the deli counter. I showed her, she thanked me, and we went our separate ways."
15. "I was sitting in the lounge at the Sutton Hotel with my dad back in 2005 and Selma Blair was at the table next to us. She caught me staring at her while she was on the phone and gave me a small wave. As she was getting up I said hi, told her I was a fan, and said to my dad, 'It's the fire girl from Hellboy!' She gave us both the warmest handshakes and actually sat down and talked to us for a few minutes."
16. "My now-husband waited on the Goo Goo Dolls years ago at a high-end hotel in Orlando, but had no idea who they were. Young and scruffy-looking, he asked them if they were in town for spring break. Surely they got a kick out of that as they told him yes, they were playing a show in Daytona Beach, and told him who they were."
17. "When I worked at the Duty Free store in Niagara Falls, USA, I waited on Kiefer Sutherland. I knew who he was, he knew I knew who he was, but (per policy) I asked his last name, and he told me (very quietly)."
18. "I once shared a cigarette with Cheech Marin when he was on Lost... the most down-to-earth guy ever!"
19. "For the hockey fans: I waited on Martin Biron and his kids a couple of times. The one time I took his card and saw it wasn't signed. When I took his receipt back for the signature, I did the whole 'I'm sorry sir, but your card isn't signed so I need to see your ID.' Just as he reached for his wallet, I said 'Just kidding!' He got a good laugh out of it and he made sure to sign his card before he left the restaurant."
