Can you hear that? It’s the sound of Marvel fans collectively screaming in excitement everywhere, as a new Daredevil series is officially happening.
Daredevil was a popular Marvel show that was once on Netflix along with a series of other Marvel TV shows that were produced on the platform, but which are now streaming on Disney+. There were hints that Matt Murdock would officially join the MCU from his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and his guest-starring episode of She-Hulk.
Nothing was better than hearing that a new series for the MCU focused on Daredevil was in the works. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, Marvel announced at their Hall H panel that Daredevil: Born Again was in development for Disney+, and this is what we know so far.
What Is The Daredevil: Born Again Premiere Date?
At the time of updating this in June2024, there isn’t a set release date for Daredevil: Born Again, but we have an idea of when it could release, and that’s March 2025. Deadline confirmed the news in May 2024 that the goal is for the show to come out then.
Daredevil: Born Again was originally announced as part of the Phase 5 Marvel line-up at San Diego Comic Con 2022, and we thought that it might appear on the 2024 TV schedule, but due to filming delays from the Writer’s and SAG-AFTRA strikes of 2023, rewrites and much more, the show has been pushed back. However, the fact that March 2025 is now less than a year away, means I’m even more eager to see what they do with this story.
The Daredevil: Born Again Cast
With a cast like this, Daredevil: Born Again is going to be the best new Marvel TV show. Here is who we know is going to star or appear in some way in the series:
Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil
Something we can definitely confirm is that Charlie Cox is going to be back as Matt Murdock, otherwise known as Daredevil. It was confirmed he officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with his appearance in 2022’s She-Hulk, but it’s still exciting news nonetheless.
Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin
Also confirmed at Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022 was that Vincent D’Onofrio, known for his portrayal of Kingpin in both the original Daredevil series, as well as in Hawkeye, is coming back to play the role in Born Again.

While Kingpin's fate was left rather ambiguous at the end of Hawkeye — where it looked like he was shot, though we didn't actually see it happen — he will apparently be around when this new series arrives.
D’Onofrio has been open about his time filming the new show, and in an interview with TV Line in May 2024, he said that now, he feels that the show is as “intense” as it could ever be:
It’s hard to comment because I want to say so much about both the [Netflix] show and this show, and the change that happened, but in the end, the last few months of work we did was… written beautifully and directed beautifully…. Personally, I think it’s as intense as we’ve ever been.
And, D’Onofrio even said in January 2024 to The Hollywood Reporter that a lot of “cool stories” were brought over from the previous show into the new one, so now I’m even more excited for this.
Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle
Another piece of news that was huge was that Jon Bernthal, known for playing the Punisher in the Netflix series of the same name, is returning to play Frank Castle again in Daredevil: Born Again, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is huge news, as many fans seriously loved Bernthal as the actor for the character, so it’ll be awesome to see him again.
In fact, Bernthal even opened up about portraying the character again in an interview with ScreenRant in January 2024, saying that Frank may have “grown” but he’s still going to always be the same in many ways:
You know how Marvel is, I really can't say anything anyway. But I care about Frank deeply, and no matter how much Frank grows, he's always going to be the same.
Ugh, March 2025 literally can’t come soon enough.
Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Fisk
Nerdist confirmed in April 2024 that Ayelet Zurer would be returning to play Vanessa Fisk, a role she previously played in the last Daredevil series. Originally, the role was recast, but Zurer will now be back.
Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page
For some time, it was unconfirmed if Deborah Ann Woll would return as Karen Page in Daredevil: Born Again, but her return was official when Jeff Sneider of The Insneider reported that both she and Elden Henson would return – this was later confirmed by several behind-the-scenes photos that were taken during filming (via ScreenRant).
Elden Henson as Foggy
As also confirmed above by the InSneider, Elden Henson will return as Foggy, rounding out the legal trio from the original Daredevil series.
In the show, both Karen and Foggy sort of acted as Matt’s moral compass and really drove him to do great things in both law and crime-fighting.
Other Daredevil: Born Again Cast Members
There have been several other cast members for Daredevil: Born Again that have been confirmed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was confirmed that Margarita Levieva would play a role in the upcoming series.
According to Deadline, Michael Gandolfini is set to have a role in the MCU series. Who he is going to play is not known, but the outlet says it’ll be a major role.
ComicBook reported that Wilson Bethel would return as Bullseye, a fan favorite from the third season of Daredevil.
In May 2023, it was confirmed that Clark Johnson would recur in Daredevil: Born Again, according to Deadline, and he is believed to be playing Cherry. The actor is also set to direct two of the episodes in the show.
Deadline also confirmed, in February 2024, that Genneya Walton will play a young journalist with connections to the original series.
The Events Of Marvel’s Echo Lead Right Into Daredevil: Born Again
For those who aren’t familiar with Echo, I’m referring to the character that was introduced in Hawkeye, a worthy adversary of Kingpin who was born deaf and is an amazing fighter. She was given a spinoff show on Disney+, simply titled Echo. It premiered in November 2023.
Prior to the show premiering, Vincent D’Onofrio talked about how the two shows are going to connect. When interviewed at Salt Lake FanX in November 2022 (via CBR), the Kingpin actor confirmed that “the last few episodes of Echo” had moments that will carry directly into Daredevil: Born Again.
Echo’s post-credits scene did lead directly into a major comic book storyline for Kingpin, so we’re looking at a great story for Born Again.
In fact, we even know that the series will be a part of the “sacred timeline” according to an interview that Echo producer Brad Winderbaum did with ScreenRant in January 2024, so it really does connect to everything:
But now that some time has passed; now that we see actually how well integrated the stories are, I think that I personally, Brad Winderbaum, would be confident in saying it is part of the Sacred Timeline.
I’m so excited!
The Show Will No Longer Be Eighteen Episodes
According to the announcement in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, Daredevil: Born Again was set to have 18 episodes. That would have been the longest season for a series that we have seen from the more recent Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, the drama received a creative overhaul in late 2023, according to The Hollywood Reporter. So much so that a new showrunner, Dario Scardapane, was tapped to work on it in October 2023.
Because of that, in January 2024, it was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that the new overhaul of the series wouldn’t contain 18 episodes, but be closer to the lower episode count of the original Daredevil series on Netflix. hen, in May 2024, it was confirmed by Collider that the show would have only nine episodes.
However, we still don’t know exactly how long these episodes are going to be. The standard for most live-action MCU TV shows looks to be somewhere between 40 minutes to an hour – while She-Hulk: Attorney at Law had some shorter episodes. Born Again could have longer episodes or be shorter, but we'll have to wait and see.
Filming Has Been Completed
In June of 2023, it was confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again shut down production because of the WGA strike, as reported by Deadline. And then it had that whole creative overhaul that really stopped shooting for some time.
Thankfully, filming eventually restarted and has now finished, as of May 2024. Cox confirmed the news but prior to that, Central Casting posted on their Instagram that filming for the show had officially come to an end:

I know that as the premiere gets closer, I’m going to be re-watching Daredevil over and over again until I get to see both him and Kingpin once again. 2025 can’t come soon enough.
