Attention horror fans, we're walking through the terrifying but exhilarating revival of the genre at the moment. Supernatural ghost stories, fake blood, gore and jump scares are welcome all year round and, thankfully, there are a bunch of chilling horror movies planned to come our way within the next few years. Whether it's the return of popular franchises like Saw and Insidious or original scares from new and favored filmmakers, there are a ton of upcoming horror movies to get ready for.
We have a solid line up of horror titles confirmed to be available to enter our eyeballs from 2024 onwards, with more to come that have yet to land a specific release date on the calendar, as well. While we wait to see if any of these titles find a spot on our list of the best horror movies of all time, check the upcoming scary movies out, here:
Alien: Romulus - August 16, 2024
The filmmaker behind the Don’t Breathe movies, Fede Alvarez, is set to put his mark on the Alien franchise next with Alien: Romulus, coming this August. Romulus follows a group of young people who come face-to-face with Xenomorphs whilst scavenging what’s left of an old space station. The cast includes Mare of Easttown’s Cailee Spaeny, Dora and the Lost City of Gold’s Isabela Merced and Shadow & Bone’s Archie Renaux. Original Alien filmmaker Ridley Scott has already seen the movie, per the film’s director, and apparently told him it’s “fucking great.” So, it’s time to get excited!! Blink Twice - August 23, 2024
Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut is coming this summer in the form of Blink Twice, which was originally called Pussy Island. The movie stars Channing Tatum, Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, Geena Davis, Haley Joel Osment, Kyle MacLachlan and Alia Shawkat. It’s about a cocktail waitress who becomes obsessed with a tech mogul before traveling with him to his private island, where all the red flags (and more) start to reveal themselves. Strange Darling - August 23, 2024
The Fall Of The House Of Usher’s Willa Fitzgerald and Smile’s Kyle Gallner are continuing their horror streaks this summer with Strange Darling. The movie revolves around a one-night stand that spirals into a serial killer’s murder spree. The movie was written/directed by newcomer JT Mollner, who wrote the screenplay for one of the upcoming Stephen King adaptations, The Long Walk, which is currently in production.
AfrAId - August 30, 2024
Blumhouse and Sony Pictures have teamed up for a horror movie called AfrAId, set to be released this summer. AfrAId stars Katherine Waterston of the Alien and Fantastic Beasts movies along with Star Trek’s John Cho and was previously called They Listen. The movie is written and directed by John Weitz, who is known for making 2002’s About A Boy, 2007’s The Golden Compass, along with having writing credits on Disney’s live-action Cinderella, Rogue One and The Mountain Between Us among many projects over the years. It's about a family who is chosen to test out a new smart home device.
The Deliverance - August 30, 2024
Director Lee Daniels, who famously helmed movies like Precious and The Butler is venturing into the world of horror for The Deliverance. The movie follows struggling single mother Ebony Jackson (played by Andra Day) as she moves into a new home with her family and “finds herself locked in a battle for her life and souls of her children,” per Netflix. The movie inspired by a true story also stars Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Mo’Nique.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - September 6, 2024
Tim Burton’s classic 1988 movie is finally getting a sequel starring Michael Keaton as you guessed it, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! The horror comedy, also helmed by Burton, will see the return of Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara as Lydia and Delia Deetz. Plus, Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe have joined the cast of Beetlejuice 2 as well. The movie wrapped filming in late November. The Front Room - September 6, 2024
Following MaXXXine, another horror movie is among upcoming A24 movies with The Front Room. The movie stars Brandy as one-half of an expecting couple who reluctantly take in an estranged family member (played by Kathryn Hunter). The movie was written and directed by Max and Sam Eggers, who have collaborated with their brother Robert Eggers on projects like The Lighthouse and The Witch.
Speak No Evil - September 13, 2024
One of the most messed up horror movies of 2022 was Danish film Speak No Evil, which debuted at Sundance before landing on Shudder. Now, Hollywood has already remade the movie about a family’s weekend vacation gone terribly wrong. The upcoming film will star Mackenzie Davis and James McAvoy and is being helmed by James Watkins and is produced by Blumhouse. Take a look at the trailer for Speak No Evil.
Bagman - September 20, 2024
Sam Claflin is set to star in the creepy horror movie, Bagman, this fall. The movie from Lionsgate is about a family who starts being hunted by the titular mythical creature, who apparently snatches away children into a rotting bag away from the world. Claflin’s character of Patrick previously escaped the creature in his childhood, but now the tormentor is after his wife and son.
The Substance - September 20, 2024
The Substance is an upcoming body horror movie about the star of an aerobics show who gets suddenly fired due to her age. Demi Moore plays the lead, Elisabeth Sparkle, as the character is given the chance to take a mysterious “substance” that will make her look younger and more beautiful. The movie – also starring Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid and Hugo Diego Garcia – premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews.
Never Let Go - September 27, 2024
The director behind The Hills Have Eyes and Crawl is back to haunt us even further with this fall’s Never Let Go, starring Halle Berry. The movie follows the Oscar winner as a mother who keeps her twin children in a house in the woods for a decade due to them being haunted by an evil spirit. But when one of the kids starts to question if the evil is real, the horrors really begin. When CinemaBlend attended the Lionsgate panel at CinemaCon, our own Sean O’Connell said the movie looks “disturbing as hell.” Check out the Never Let Go trailer… if you dare.
Monster Summer - October 4, 2024
If you’ve been having Stranger Things withdrawals, Monster Summer may give you a good fix! The movie is directed by David Henrie, who famously starred in Wizards of Waverly Place with Selena Gomez, as her brother Justin, and was inspired by movies like The Sandlot, The Goonies and E.T. It’s about a group of kids whose summer gets rocked by a “mysterious force” and must team up with Mel Gibson’s retired police detective character to save their home.
The Forest Hills - October 4, 2024
Following Shelley Duvall’s death at the age of 75, audiences will have a chance to see her final performance in The Forest Hills this October after leaving Hollywood for two decades. The Shining actress stars as the mother of the protagonist Rico, who begins having nightmarish visions while recovering from a head injury he gets while camping the Catskill woods.
V/H/S/Beyond - October 4, 2024
The V/H/S movie franchise continues with its seventh movie from its main series, this time called V/H/S/Beyond. This time around, the anthology film from Shudder will be sci-fi oriented and feature six segments directed by Jordan Downey, Christian & Justin Long, Justin Martinez, Virat Pal and Kate Siegel. We’re especially excited for Siegel’s directorial debut after the actress has been in a ton of her husband Mike Flanagan’s movies and TV shows.
Terrifier 3 - October 11, 2024
After 2022’s Terrifier 2 went viral for fans vomiting in theaters, Art the Clown is set to haunt audiences in 2024 with a third installment coming just in time for Halloween. However, this Terrifier movie will be a Christmas horror movie, with one teaser already having the clown in Santa’s costume. Terrifier 3’s director has already teased that the first five minutes of the movie is going to be “very controversial,” so bring the barf bags just in case!?!
Smile 2 - October 18, 2024
Smile told the story of Sosie Bacon’s Dr. Rose Cutter, a therapist working at a psychiatric ward who becomes terrorized by a mysterious entity that takes over human bodies and makes them smirk as they get violent. After Parker Finn’s Smile was a huge success during the 2022 Halloween season, Paramount set an official release date for a sequel for the next spooky season. As the trailer teases, the second Smile movie stars Naomi Scott as a Lady Gaga-esque pop star who looks to be the latest final girl to be haunted by those creepy smiles.
Your Monster - October 25, 2024
Melissa Barrera might be out of the Scream franchise, but the actress isn’t going too far from the horror genre for her next movie. She stars in Your Monster, a horror movie with a romantic twist as her character of Laura discovers a charming monster living in her closet as she deals with a cancer diagnosis and recent breakup. The movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival at the top of the year to high praise by critics who are saying it is packed full of chemistry between Barrera and the monster played by Tommy Dewey.
Bambi: The Reckoning - October 31, 2024
Following the horror genre having success with turning Winnie The Pooh into a creepy villain, Bambi is next. Yes, Bambi. The upcoming movie will be about a mother and son who get into a car wreck and then must face the wrath of a mutated deer hellbent on getting revenge for his mother.
Heretic - November 15, 2024
Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who are the filmmakers behind A Quiet Place, have made their latest horror movie with Heretic. The A24 movie that stars Hugh Grant, Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher is about two Mormon missionaries who end up in a “deadly game of cat-and-mouse” (per Bloody Disgusting) after they knock on one man’s door in hopes of spreading their faith.
Nightbitch - December 6, 2024
Rachel Yoder’s novel Nightbitch is about a newly stay-at-home mother who becomes convinced she’s turning into a dog at night. The book has been adapted into a horror movie from Can You Ever Forgive Me? and A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood filmmaker, Marielle Heller. Amy Adams stars in and produced Nightbitch.
Nosferatu - December 25, 2024
Robert Eggers, the filmmaker behind movies like The Witch and The Lighthouse, is reimagining a horror classic with his take on Nosferatu this Christmas. The movie that draws from the German expressional vampire film of 1922 stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp. Nosferatu is described as a gothic tale between a “haunted young woman” and the vampire who is infatuated by her.
Wolf Man - January 17, 2025
Following the success of 2020’s The Invisible Man, director Leigh Whannell has been hard at work on reviving another classic Universal Monsters character and this year it will finally come to fruition. While The Wolf Man originally was going to be led by Ryan Gosling when it was announced years ago, the titular role has since been filled by Christopher Abbott, but he will reportedly not be playing the werewolf, but a “a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.” Ozark’s Julia Garner is also in the cast as well. The Monkey - February 21, 2025
Director Osgood Perkins just established himself as a major horror director to watch after making one of the best movies of 2024 with Longlegs. Next up, the filmmaker is adapting a Stephen King short story called The Monkey. It’s about two boys who find a cymbal-banging monkey toy in the attic of their great uncle’s house that is cursed. Everytime the monkey claps his hands together someone dies in their family. The movie is set to star Theo James, Tatiana Maslany and Elijah Wood.
Untitled Ryan Coogler Horror Movie - March 7, 2025
Ryan Coogler famously made both Black Panther movies and the first Creed. Next, he’s venturing into the world of horror, alongside returning collaborator Michael B. Jordan! The movie is rumored to be a vampire movie set in the South during America’s Jim Crow-era. We don’t know the title yet, but reports have already dated the Warner Bros flick for this spring along with news that Delroy Lindo is part of the cast.
The Woman In The Yard - March 28, 2025
Following Jaume Collet-Serra directing movies like Jungle Cruise and Black Adam, he is returning to his roots in horror (most notably with 2005’s House of Wax and 2009’s Orphan) with Blumhouse movie, The Woman In The Yard. The movie starring Danielle Deadwyler has a mysterious plotline for the time being.
28 Years Later - June 20, 2025
As Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s 28 Days Later remains as one of the great zombie horror films, both filmmakers are set to return to the storyline with an exciting sequel called 28 Years Later. The movie will star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell and will reportedly be the start of a new trilogy of movies, and Cillian Murphy is on board as an executive producer.
M3GAN 2.0 - June 25, 2025
M3GAN plans ahead. Soon after the box office success of M3GAN in early 2023, it was announced that a sequel is in the works with the title M3GAN 2.0 and a set theatrical date. The screenwriter of the original, Akela Cooper, will write the script and Allison Williams and M3GAN herself, Violet McGraw, will be back, this time with a release date more central to the 2025 release calendar.
I Know What You Did Last Summer - July 18, 2025
Over 20 years after the original I Know What You Did Last Summer movie, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar expected to return to Sony’s horror franchise. It is said to be similar to the recent Scream movie, where its original cast are joined by a new young cast. The movie is being helmed by Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. It’s great to see another ‘90s franchise get a revival!
Insidious 6 - August 29, 2025
Blumhouse’s Insidious franchise is set to keep going next summer with a sixth installment, about two years after the last installment, The Red Door, per Variety. At this time, we don’t have many details about who will be in the sequel and what it will be about, but the franchise has consistently been a hit among audiences so it’s no surprise another Insidious movie has been fast-tracked.
Conjuring 4 - September 5, 2025
The reported finale of The Conjuring franchise has been in the works with Michael Chaves helming the horror movie. Chaves previously directed the previous movie in the series, 2021's The Devil Made Me Do It along with last year's The Nun II. While the final title is unlikely to be Conjuring 4, Warner Bros. has officially dated the project for next fall.
Saw XI - September 26, 2025
After the Saw franchise made a comeback in 2023 with Saw X, Jigsaw is ready for another round in the form of Saw XI. Just a couple months after the tenth installment hit theaters and was not only met with positive reception, but did well commercially, the eleventh movie was announced by Lionsgate alongside a fall 2024 release date. However, since the studio decided to move the movie down a year to 2025.
The Bride! - September 26, 2025
It feels like more than ever, filmmakers are getting inspired to adapt Frankenstein in new ways. After Poor Things and Lisa Frankenstein came out in the past few months, Guillermo Del Toro is making his own Frankenstein vision, but so is Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Bride of Frankenstein. The Bride!’s release date is set for October ,and the film stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening and Penelope Cruz and takes place in 1930s Chicago as Bale’s Frankenstein seeks the help of a mad scientist to create a companion for him.
The Black Phone 2 - October 17, 2025
After Joe Hill’s story was successfully adapted in summer 2022 with Ethan Hawke as “The Grabber,” a sequel is on the way for 2025. It was announced that Blumhouse and Universal are teaming back up for The Black Phone 2 in October 2023, before it was then revealed that Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora are returning as the characters they played in the first film.
Blade - November 7, 2025
For years, Marvel has been preparing to bring vampires into the MCU with a new Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali. The movie has faced numerous setbacks and delays since it was announced, including the latest one, which has Lovecraft Country’s Yann Demange out as director. Alongside Ali, the movie has been expected to star Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo.
Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 - December 5, 2025
In the fall of 2023, the adaptation of the popular video game Five Nights At Freddy’s became a massive commercial hit for Blumhouse. After Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard and company lead the movie, the studio has announced a Five Nights sequel that will revive Freddy Fazbear’s house of horrors.
SOULM8TE - January 2, 2026
Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are also working on a M3GAN spinoff called SOULM8TE, per The Hollywood Reporter. The movie coming at the top of 2026 has been described as an “erotic thriller” set in the same universe and will be about a man who uses the same technology to create his own soulmate after losing his wife. The movie will be directed by Kate Dolan of 2021’s You Are Not My Mother.
Mike Flanagan’s Exorcist Movie - March 13, 2026
After the latest Exorcist movie, Believer flopped at the box office, Universal and Blumhouse have pivoted away from its original Exorcist: Deceiver plans with David Gordon Green, and are instead handing the keys of the franchise over to Mike Flanagan. The filmmaker who famously made The Haunting Of Hill House, Doctor Sleep among other great horror projects, has a new take on the title coming in 2026!
Untitled Jordan Peele Movie - October 23, 2026
Following Nope, Jordan Peele is working on his next movie, and while we don’t know for sure whether it’s horror, the release date seems to point in that direction. In mid June, Jordan Peele posted on his Instagram “10.23.26” in anticipation for the title. That’s just days before Halloween!!
