How many Shrines are in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
In total, there are 152 Shrines in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
These Shrines are spread across both the ground and skies of Hyrule, with 120 Shrines on Hyrule itself and 32 in the skies. Due to this, you'll need to travel across land, investigate caves and soar through the skies to find them all!
There are no Shrines within The Depths. Instead, you'll be able to find Lightroots, which, when activiated, will light up a section of The Depths and add this area to your map. Every Lightroot location corresponds to a Shrine location on the surface, so, if you find a Lightroot, this means you've also technically found a Shrine. You still, however, have to find this Shrine on the surface to have it appear on your map.
Below you'll find overview maps for all of the Shrine locations both on Hyrule and within the sky. After these maps lie detailed location lists and maps for all of the Shrines, including whether they're connected to a Shrine Quest or within a cover, divided by Skyview Tower regions for the surface and sky region for the ones on the sky islands.

Tips for finding Shrines in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
Here are some tips to help you in your Shrine hunting in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom:
- Unlock the Shrine Sensor. After completing one of the Regional Phenomena quests, you’ll be able to complete A Mystery in the Depths and, after that, you’ll be able to unlock the Shrine Sensor. This useful feature will tell you when you’re near a Shrine!
- Look near stables and settlements. Since Shrines are part of the Fast Travel system in Tears of the Kingdom, there will always be one near a stable or settlement, like Hateno Village. So, when you’ve reached a new settlement, take the time to have a look around high and low to find the nearby Shrine.
- Investigate caves! Tears of the Kingdom allows you to delve into the depths of Hyrule and, down there, you’ll find Shrines. For this reason, it’s always a good idea to investigate every cave you encounter and remember, if you see a blue rabbit spirit (also known as a Blupee), it will lead you to a cave.
- Search for Shrines during the night. Thanks to the green glow surrounding Shrines, it can be easier to spot Shrines at night.
- A Lightroot in The Depths means a Shrine on the surface. Due to every Lightroot location in The Depths corresponding to a Shrine location on the surface world, you can use Lightroots to track down any Shrines you might be missing. Since map pins appear in the same place no matter which map type you're looking at - be it Sky, Surface or Depths - if you pin a Lightroot location, you've also pinned a Shrine.
- Use Skytower to your advantage. Skytowers will shoot you up into the sky and this increased height will make it easier to spot certain Shrines - be it in the sky or on the ground.
- Get the chest! You’ll find a chest inside every Shrine containing a useful item - be it a weapon or material. Reaching the chest, however, will be a little puzzle in itself. If you do find the chest, then a little chest symbol will appear next to the Shrine’s name on your map, allowing you to keep track of which Shrines you’ve fully completed.
- Look out for the green crystals! A number of Shrines will require you to bring a green crystal back to their location and, in doing so, complete a Shrine Quest. While the Shrines will create a green beam showing you where the crystal is, you may simply find one of these crystals while out adventuring. If you do, this means there is a Shrine nearby!
- You don’t have to complete the Shrine straight away. Every Shrine contains a puzzle, which, when completed, will reward you with a Light of Blessing. Yet, some Shrines are easier than others. Thankfully, every Shrine is also a Fast Travel spot, so, if you can’t complete one, you can simply return to it later.
What happens after you complete every Shrine in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?
Upon completing your final Shrine in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll automatically unlock The Shrine Explorer Side Quest. It doesn’t matter which Shrine you complete, this quest will always appear once you’ve collected 152 Light of Blessings.
To finish this side quest, and earn your reward for completing every Shrine, all you have to do is visit the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island. Once there, head up to the Goddess Statue within and you’ll now find a chest sitting behind it.
Inside said chest, you’ll find a piece of armor called the Ancient Hero’s Aspect and, with that, The Shrine Explorer quest will draw to a close.
While we won’t include a picture of the Ancient Hero’s Aspect as it's quite the spoiler, we will say that it fills all three of Link’s armor slots and has a base defence level of 12.
The Ancient Hero’s Aspect is actually one of the best pieces of armor you can find in Tears of the Kingdom and, due to that, it has some heavy upgrade costs:
Upgrade | Material Cost | Rupee Cost | Defence Level |
---|---|---|---|
One | 9 Silver Bokoblin Horns 9 Hinox Guts 15 Zonaite | 30 | 21 |
Two | 9 Silver Moblin Horns 9 Frox Guts 10 Large Zonatie | 150 | 36 |
Three | 9 Silver Lizalfos Horns 9 Molduga Guts 15 Large Zonaite | 600 | 54 |
Four | 9 Silver Lynel Saber Horns 9 Silver Lynel Mace Horn 9 Gleeok Guts | 1500 | 84 |
Once the Ancient Hero’s Aspect is fully upgraded, you’ll unlock its set bonus - Master Sword Beam. This allows you to send out a beam of power when swinging the Master Sword!
