George Clooney Joins Major Hollywood Voices Calling For President Biden Stepping Down From 2024 Election

Actor George Clooney is one of the biggest celebrity supporters of the Democratic Party, but that didn’t stop him from calling for President Biden to step down from the upcoming elections.

Clooney cited concerns over Joe Biden’s age—the 46^th and current President of the United States is turning 82 this year—and that the one battle Biden cannot win is “the fight against time.” This statement came less than a month after Clooney co-hosted a fundraiser for Joe Biden’s campaign.

“But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can. It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe big F-ing deal Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” Clooney wrote.

George Clooney justified his statement further, still citing Biden’s age, by stating that the President, who had a sit down with Barack Obama and Jimmy Kimmel at the fundraiser, appeared similar to how he was at the most recent debate with Donald Trump.

The fundraiser event managed to raise millions in small-dollar donations, thanks to the contest that took place at the event, with the winner having the chance to meet both George Clooney and Julia Roberts, both of whom have appeared together in a total of six movies—the most recent being 2022’s Ticket to Paradise.

President Biden’s performance during the most recent debate with Donald Trump was widely criticized, as the President struggled with several verbal gaffes and appeared to have lost his train of thought multiple times. This performance played right into the existing concerns George Clooney and others have over his age and his cognitive abilities. Biden later acknowledged his poor performance in a subsequent rally, admitting that he didn’t debate as well as he used to.

In a subsequent interview with George Stephanopoulos, Biden offered a different answer, citing exhaustion and a cold, which not only didn’t persuade George Clooney but also prompted him to add that the party leaders shouldn’t make up excuses for something the entire nation saw.

George Clooney is just the latest Democrat-supporting Hollywood star to call on Biden to exit the presidential race. The father of horror, Stephen King, and American actor and filmmaker Robert Rainer, also did the same earlier this month, and so have Reed Hastings and Ari Emanuel.

Damon Lindelof even went so far as to publish an essay in which he appeals to donors to stop their donations until the situation is addressed.

While Clooney hasn’t gone that far as to call on the donors to cut their donations to Biden’s campaign, it’s potentially more devastating due to the perception that the current President isn’t up to the task of challenging and repelling Donald Trump.
