On Monday, April 3, a fire broke out on the sets of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Thankfully no one was harmed by the small fire that was sparked in a storage workshop on the filming set, according to Variety. This incident, in addition to a horse recently dying on set, has led some to believe that season 2 of the Amazon Studios series is cursed.

If there’s any such thing as a “good fire,” this was it. The fire broke out while filming was taking place at Bray Studios in Windsor, England, causing the local fire and rescue service to quickly respond to the scene where they extinguished the flames in less than five hours. While this was going on, the filming only stopped for about an hour, and none of the Lord of the Rings cast and crew had to be evacuated.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a “good death,” and the series has already suffered a death on set after a horse unexpectedly died from cardiac arrest. The horse, who was preparing for a battle scene with 30 other horses, suddenly dropped dead and had to be carried off-set before filming continued. This is just one of the tragedies that animal rights organizations like PETA have brought to filmmakers’ attention, urging them to stop using animals in films.

With two incidents occurring on set since filming for Season 2 of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power began on October 3, 2022, it’s no wonder that people speculate this season could be cursed. If that is the case, then this wouldn’t be the first tv series to be so unlucky. Other notable tv series that have been deemed as cursed are Glee, Our Gang, and Diff’rent Strokes.

The musical comedy-drama tv series Glee aired from 2009 to 2015, featuring six seasons and an impressive cast. However, the show has since lost three stars: Cory Monteith from a drug overdose in 2013, Mark Salling from suicide in 2018, and Naya Rivera from a mysterious drowning in 2020. There has been so much publicity around the cursed aftermath of the tv series that a new, three-part docuseries, The Price of Glee, was released earlier this year.

Hopefully, the supposed curse of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will be lifted soon, and the production will continue smoothly. There is no confirmed release date yet, but we can anticipate that it will drop on Amazon Prime either by the end of this year or in early 2024.

The new season will focus on the rise of Sauron, the main antagonist of the Lord of the Rings series who goes on to rule Mordor, and it will introduce the character of Círdan, who Michael Elsworth has previously portrayed.

We can also expect to see an appearance from a big LotR fan, Stephen Colbert, along with many returning cast members like Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Durin IV, and Maxim Baldry as Isildur.
