Sydney Sweeney Religious Horror Hit Now On Hulu
It’s not news to anyone that Sydney Sweeney is one of the hottest names in the entertainment industry right now. Over the last few years, the actress has taken off like a rocket and Hulu is capitalizing on one of her latest projects as subscribers can now watch Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate. Diving into the subgenre of religious horror, the movie reveals the Euphoria star as you’ve never seen her before – as a devout nun fighting for her life at an Italian convent.
Sister Cecilia Is In Danger
Sydney Sweeney stars in Immaculate as Sister Cecilia, a young nun who has left her life in the United States behind to travel abroad and join a convent in the Italian countryside. Everything is just as she’s always imagined, with the gorgeous country church sitting picturesquely alongside rolling hills and vineyards. But as Sister Cecilia becomes more aware of her surroundings, and her fellow members of the cloth, she begins to realize that not everything is as it seems and that her life may be in danger.
Michael Mohan Shows His Creative Range
Filmmaker Michael Mohan celebrates a reunion with Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate, as the director and leading lady previously worked together in 2021’s erotic thriller, The Voyeurs. Other credits under Mohan’s belt include the feature-length films One Too Many Mornings and Save the Date as well as the short-lived Netflix teen-centered comedy-drama, Everything Sucks!
For the most part, those only familiar with American cinema will likely not recognize many of the other names on the movie’s call sheet, but those who tuned in for Season 2 of The White Lotus will undoubtedly spot Simona Tabasco whose work in the HBO series earned her an Emmy Award nomination.
A Total Win For Neon
During its opening weekend, Sydney Sweeney and Immaculate were up against some strong competition, namely Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and the indie-hit, Late Night with the Devil. The movie more than held its own during its first few days in cinemas, landing in the fourth spot at the box office and nabbing the bragging titles of the best opening weekend in the history of its home studio, Neon. By the time Immaculate bowed from theaters, it had earned nearly $29 million against its $9 million production budget.
Proving The Haters Wrong
There were, of course, plenty of haters who poured out their uncertainty about Sydney Sweeney holding her own in a horror movie, but Immaculate proved them all wrong. Landing a 71 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, many critics were thrilled with the Anyone but You star’s performance and also applauded the up-playing of unsettling body horror scenes.
Streaming Immaculate On Hulu
This year has been a busy one for Sydney Sweeney as, aside from Immaculate, the actress also stepped into the Spider-Verse thanks to Sony’s gargantuan box office flop, Madame Web. While the movie may not have been the payoff that anyone was hoping for, Sweeney’s career was in no way affected, as the actress recently celebrated the world premiere of her next movie at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The project in question is Ron Howard’s Eden, in which the performer appears alongside a star-studded cast that includes Jude Law, Daniel Brühl, Ana de Armas, and more.
While you wait for more information on the wide theatrical release on Eden and the elusive third season of Euphoria, you can get your Sydney Sweeney fix now by heading over to Hulu and streaming Immaculate.
