Accessibility Statement Haaretz.com

Launched in 1997, Haaretz.com is an independent news website with a broadly liberal outlook both on domestic issues and on international affairs. Haaretz.com serves millions of readers per month, providing them news coverage, opinions, magazine articles and analysis. With modern design and advanced features, readers of Haaretz.com can enjoy not only quality content, but also a pleasing digital experience. Although there is no legal obligation for accessibility on this website, we initiated various solutions for those in need, both in article pages and on the homepage. These solutions were made in accordance with the recommendations of the Israeli Standard and the international Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0). For that purpose, Haaretz.com works with A-2-Z, an Israel company which provides accessibility solutions to websites.

Website operation and accessibility features
  • For the best experience with screen-reading applications, we recommend using the latest version of the NVDA app in the Firefox browser.
  • In header of the website, you will find an accessibility button, which activates and deactivates the accessibility mode and a high-contrast color scheme. You can also use this button to report an accessibility problem with the website.
  • Readers can navigate with the keyboard and move forward/backward between pages in the website while hitting Tab, Shift+Tab and the arrows keys.
  • Haaretz.com provides semantic structure for assisting technologies and supports the accepted keyboard usage for arrow keys, Enter and Esc to navigate menus and windows.
  • Each image in the website comes with alternative text attached. In most cases, the text and other elements on the website are presented with high-contrast levels, but where that is not the case, due to design requirements, contrast change is available by using the accessibility button in the homepage header.
  • Screen display can be resized as the reader prefers.
  • The display of the website is responsive and fits screens on various platforms, such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones.
  • The pages and hierarchy of the website are clearly categorized, using simple language and in accordance with standard Israeli recommendations.
  • The website supports the latest versions of the Firefox and Google Chrome browsers.
  • The website supports screen-reading applications, which help vision-impaired readers.
