Weather LIVE: Six persons were killed due to rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh in the past 24 hours, a state Relief Commissioner office report said on Tuesday, reports news agency PTI. These deaths included five due to drowning in Kannauj and one in Mainpuri, it said.

According to the report, 16 districts in the state are flood affected. These districts are - Lakhimpur Kheri, Kushinagar, Shahjahanpur, Barabanki, Siddharthnagar, Ballia, Gorakhpur, Unnao, Deoria, Hardoi, Ayodhya, Bahraich, Budaun, Gonda, Maharajganj and Sitapur.

Weather LIVE: The Delhi High Court directed civic authorities on Tuesday to carry out a joint inspection after the Bar Council of Delhi filed a plea highlighting the flooding of its office in the Siri Fort Institutional area following heavy rains in the capital last month, reports news agency PTI.

The lawyers' body said its office basement was completely submerged with more than 10 feet of water following the rainfall in the intervening night of June 27 and 28, and the flooding was of such a magnitude that it not only damaged the building but also resulted in loss of data stored by its information technology (IT) department.

Observing that the "image of a world-class city is completely shattered", Justice Sanjeev Narula directed the civic authorities, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB), to carry out a joint inspection of the area and take remedial measures.

Weather LIVE: In a daring rescue effort, fire force personnel on Tuesday saved four people, including an elderly man and a woman, who were stranded on a rock in the middle of the swollen Chittoor river in Palakkad district. The water level in the Chittoor river rose due to the release of water from the Moolathara regulator area, following rains in its catchment areas. Kerala Power Minister Krishnankutty quickly arrived at the scene, taking charge of the rescue efforts, officials said, reports news agency PTI.

Fire force personnel then launched a brave operation, carefully reaching the rock and connecting it to the riverbank with a rope. Visuals aired by TV news channels showed that the four stranded persons, provided with life jackets, were then safely brought by the fire force personnel to shore on inflatable rescue tubes attached to the rope to prevent them from being swept away.

Weather LIVE: Indian farmers have accelerated the planting of summer-sown crops, such as paddy, soybean, cotton, and corn, following above-average monsoon rainfall in July that came after a deficit in June, according to government data, reports Reuters.

Summer rains, critical for economic growth in Asia's third-largest economy, usually begin in the south around June 1 before spreading nationwide by July 8, allowing farmers to plant summer crops.

But in June India received 11% less rain than average, after the monsoon lost momentum in mid-June and delayed sowing. In the first half of July there was 9% more rainfall than normal which helped farmers to plant summer crops on 57.5 million hectares (142 million acres) by July 12, a tenth higher than last year, according to Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare.

Weather LIVE: The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning in parts of Andhra Pradesh for five days from July 16, reports news agency PTI.

Heavy rain is likely in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP). Besides heavy rain, parts of NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema are expected to receive thunderstorms, along with strong surface winds up to a speed of 40 km per hour (kmph).

"Yesterday's (Monday) low pressure area over south Odisha and neighbourhood now lies over south Chhattisgarh, adjoining Vidarbha with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, and tilting southwestwards with height," said the IMD in a press release.

Weather LIVE: Monsoon will remain active in eastern Rajasthan for the next four-five days and heavy rain is likely at some places in Kota and Udaipur divisions, a MeT department spokesperson said, reports news agency PTI.

According to the MeT department, a low pressure area formed over Chhattisgarh and the surrounding Vidarbha region on Tuesday. Another new low pressure area is likely to form in the Bay of Bengal around July 18 and the monsoon 'trough line' was passing through parts of southern Rajasthan even on Tuesday.

Weather LIVE: Seven persons, including a five-member family, were feared killed after a massive landslide at Shirur in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district on Tuesday, officials said, citing initial reports.

The family members, who were running a road-side petty shop on National Highway 66, were suspected to be trapped under mud and soil that plunged down a hill, official sources said, reported news agency PTI.

The landslide also pushed a gas tanker to nearby Gangavali river, the sources said based on preliminary information, adding, the vehicle's driver and cleaner, who were reportedly having tea at the shop at the time of the incident, were missing. "Rescue work is underway", a police official said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah telephoned Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to enquire about the situation, reiterating assurance of all help from the Centre, while Sarma also received a call from his Odisha counterpart offering use of the eastern state's disaster management system to mitigate the challenges.

Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Monday and apprised him of the flood situation, a Raj Bhavan source said here. The Prime Minister said that the Centre is with the state government to deal with the situation and empower the state in mitigating the impact of flood.

Weather LIVE: A mother and a son were killed when a wall of their house collapsed on Monday night, as heavy rains continued to lash many parts of central and northern Kerala, causing widespread destruction, reported news agency PTI.

The incident was reported from Kottekad in the Vadakkanchery police station limits, in Palakkad district.

The deceased have been identified as Sulochana, 53, and her son Ranjith, 33, according to police. The mother and the son were crushed to death when the wall inside their old house collapsed on them while they were sleeping, the police said.

Parts of the Capital received moderate rainfall on Monday morning, with multiple complaints of waterlogging and traffic snarls being reported from across the city. The sudden downpour also led to the diversion and delay of multiple flights, officials aware of the matter said.

The incident occurred in Kottekad within the Vadakkanchery police station area, Palakkad district.

The victims were identified by the police as Sulochana, 53, and her son Ranjith, 33.

The old house wall collapsed while they were sleeping, crushing them to death.

Their bodies were discovered by local residents on Tuesday morning.

A farmer and his wife lost their lives due to a lightning strike in Nagpur district on Monday, according to a police official. The incident occurred in the afternoon in Mohpa village, located about 40 kilometers from the district headquarters, as reported by the Kalmeshwar police. "During heavy rain, Prabhakar Keshav Revatkar (62) and his wife Hirabai (55) took shelter under a tree near a temple. They were killed on the spot. Their bodies were found by other farmers in the evening. An accidental death case has been registered," the official stated.

Jagalbet in Coastal Karnataka recorded the highest rainfall in India with 250 mm in the last 24 hours, according to an advisory from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on July 15. Due to the ongoing heavy rains in many parts of Karnataka, the IMD has maintained its red alert for the south interior and coastal regions for July 16. The heavy rain has caused significant disruptions, particularly in Uttara Kannada and Kodagu on July 15. In Karwar taluk of Uttara Kannada district, the construction of a four-lane national highway and the barricade at Kadamba naval base have led to flooding in the surrounding villages.
