According to the IMD, the monsoon is changing direction and coastal regions of Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Konkan Goa should expect more than 20 cm of rain in the next few days.

Maharashtra's Raigad has been placed under a red alert, while Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur are under an orange alert. Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod in Kerala are also under a red alert, while Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Wayanad are under a yellow alert.

Weather LIVE: The Delhi High Court directed civic authorities on Tuesday to carry out a joint inspection after the Bar Council of Delhi filed a plea highlighting the flooding of its office in the Siri Fort Institutional area following heavy rains in the capital last month, reports news agency PTI.

The lawyers' body said its office basement was completely submerged with more than 10 feet of water following the rainfall in the intervening night of June 27 and 28, and the flooding was of such a magnitude that it not only damaged the building but also resulted in loss of data stored by its information technology (IT) department.

Observing that the "image of a world-class city is completely shattered", Justice Sanjeev Narula directed the civic authorities, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB), to carry out a joint inspection of the area and take remedial measures.

Weather LIVE: In a daring rescue effort, fire force personnel on Tuesday saved four people, including an elderly man and a woman, who were stranded on a rock in the middle of the swollen Chittoor river in Palakkad district. The water level in the Chittoor river rose due to the release of water from the Moolathara regulator area, following rains in its catchment areas. Kerala Power Minister Krishnankutty quickly arrived at the scene, taking charge of the rescue efforts, officials said, reports news agency PTI.

Fire force personnel then launched a brave operation, carefully reaching the rock and connecting it to the riverbank with a rope. Visuals aired by TV news channels showed that the four stranded persons, provided with life jackets, were then safely brought by the fire force personnel to shore on inflatable rescue tubes attached to the rope to prevent them from being swept away.

Summer rains, critical for economic growth in Asia's third-largest economy, usually begin in the south around June 1 before spreading nationwide by July 8, allowing farmers to plant summer crops.

But in June India received 11% less rain than average, after the monsoon lost momentum in mid-June and delayed sowing. In the first half of July there was 9% more rainfall than normal which helped farmers to plant summer crops on 57.5 million hectares (142 million acres) by July 12, a tenth higher than last year, according to Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare.

Weather LIVE: The India Meteorological Department on Tuesday predicted heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning in parts of Andhra Pradesh for five days from July 16, reports news agency PTI.

Heavy rain is likely in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP). Besides heavy rain, parts of NCAP, Yanam, SCAP and Rayalaseema are expected to receive thunderstorms, along with strong surface winds up to a speed of 40 km per hour (kmph).

"Yesterday's (Monday) low pressure area over south Odisha and neighbourhood now lies over south Chhattisgarh, adjoining Vidarbha with an associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, and tilting southwestwards with height," said the IMD in a press release.

The Prime Minister said that the Centre is with the state government to deal with the situation and empower the state in mitigating the impact of flood.

Man, wife killed by lightning in Nagpur

A farmer and his wife lost their lives due to a lightning strike in Nagpur district on Monday, according to a police official. The incident occurred in the afternoon in Mohpa village, located about 40 kilometers from the district headquarters, as reported by the Kalmeshwar police.
