NExT exam deferred till further notice: Health Ministry

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has deferred the National Exit Test (NExT) examination until further notice from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The exam was meant to be implemented for the 2019 MBBS batch but has faced opposition from students and doctors. NExT is a postgraduate medical exam that will replace NEET PG.

Medical education department sends fourth notice to CPS

The College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPS) has been sent a fourth show-cause notice by the medical education department asking it to explain anomalies found at hospitals offering its courses during an inspection last year. The notice comes as the Bombay high court decides whether a writ petition filed by the CPS will merit a hearing. Two institutions offering CPS courses were found closed and anomalies detected in 45 others during last year's inspection, while another 73 refused inspection. The CPS is an autonomous examination body that grants degrees under the Indian Medical Degrees Act, 1916.

Blood banks to inform SBTC of hepatitis positive patients

The State Blood Transfusion Council in India has instructed blood banks to notify both new and old hepatitis B and C patients in an effort to eradicate the diseases. The council has 373 blood banks registered with it and aims to end viral hepatitis by 2030 through its National Viral Hepatitis Control Program. Free screening tests and treatment are being provided to hepatitis B and C patients through treatment centres, and blood donors are being referred to these centres for further treatment and medical management. The monthly data will be analysed to identify trends in the community.

At 2,401 infections, India sees yet another decline in its daily Covid tally
