Alexander Sørloth has swapped Villarreal CF for Atlético de Madrid ahead of the new season, after finishing as the second top scorer in LALIGA EA SPORTS in 2023/24, when he netted 23 goals, just one behind top scorer Artem Dovbyk. Los Rojiblancos are strengthening their squad with this acquisition, as they look to source the goals they need to win titles.
The 28-year-old Norwegian just had his best season in LALIGA EA SPORTS, scoring so many goals that he entered Atleti’s radar. In just one season at Villarreal CF, Sorloth scored 26 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions.
The Norwegian spent one season at Villarreal CF, having previously enjoyed seasons at Real Sociedad, where he scored 15 goals between the two seasons. His career began in his native Norway, before he made the leap to Danish side Midtjylland in 2017 and enjoyed success. Two years later, he made the leap to the Premier League to sign with Crystal Palace.
A key moment in Sørloth's career came at Trabzonspor, a club he joined after leaving the Premier League. With the Turkish club, the striker scored 24 goals in 34 games, showing his class. From that moment on, several European clubs truly started scouting him, including RB Leipzig. He moved to the German club, where he debuted in the Champions League by playing six games and scoring his first goal in that European competition. This was the step up he needed, just before moving to LALIGA EA SPORTS.
Alexander Sørloth has gradually grown to become one of the best strikers in LALIGA and in Europe. As for his main characteristics, his ability to hold the ball up and understand space, offloading to his teammates, stands out. But, above all, his finishing is impressive, especially with his head. He is so strong in the air, using his physicality to cause defenders problems.
Last season, Sørloth made history in LALIGA EA SPORTS, becoming one of only 11 players to have scored four goals against Real Madrid in a single match, and just the sixth player to do so in the league. He was only the second to achieve this in the 21st century, after Taty Castellanos did so with Girona FC. That was undoubtedly a historic achievement for the Norwegian, who enjoyed one of his best outings of his career.
Now, Diego Simeone and Atlético de Madrid have the striker they wanted. The capital city side were looking for a man to provide a high number of goals, as they aim to compete for the league title against the giants of Spanish football. The Norwegian will be reunited with Robin Le Normand at his new club, as the pair were together at Real Sociedad in 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns. Now, they’ll start a new adventure together in Spain’s capital.
