Conectar sala de aula e realidade social é indispensável. Afinal as relações teorizadas acontecem e impactam diretamente as nossas vivências. Ainda que sejam matemáticas, basta pensarmos nos impactos sociais dos algoritmos. Portanto, o professor deve buscar reconhecer as limitações de suas vivências, evitando generalizações desmedidas e autocentradas, em paralelo buscar expandir seus horizontes pessoais e compreender as diversas desigualdades presentes na sociedade. Sejam elas capacitistas, racistas, lgbtfobicas, aporofobicas, xenofobicas e outras tantas. Assim, estaremos mais atendos ao nossos próprios vieses, buscando uma educação mais inclusiva e própria da realidade. Bem como, no caminho para validar as vivências e a autonomia do aluno.

To champion educational equity and social justice, I focus on one key strategy: Incorporate Inclusive Content: I ensure my syllabus includes diverse perspectives and voices. From discussing Black Lives Matter in history lessons to examining gender roles in modern media, my goal is to make every student feel seen and heard. Plus, who doesn’t love a good debate on current events? 🌍📚 By embedding social justice in the curriculum, I help students understand and appreciate the rich tapestry of human experience, making the classroom a microcosm of the world we want to build. 🌈✊

Educate Yourself on Inequities: • Historical Context: Learn about the history of systemic inequities affecting various student groups, such as racial, socioeconomic, and gender disparities. • Current Issues: Stay informed on contemporary issues impacting education equity, like the digital divide, funding disparities, and curriculum biases. 2. Recognize and Address Biases: • Self-Reflection: Reflect on your own biases and how they might influence your teaching. Tools like implicit bias tests can help identify unconscious prejudices.

Engaging students in discussions on educational equity is indeed important. From my experience, many students are sheltered from reality and hence unaware of what struggles different groups of people might be facing. These discussions help them to develop a global perspective on critical social issues, allowing them to become responsible global citizens in future. We can spark their interest on these issues through role-playing. Introduce different backgrounds to the class and allow them to play out these roles in a safe place. They can then share their reflections to generate different perspectives on the issues.

Years ago, while talking to a 9 year old about how to make a sign in his school to attract kids to participate his reply taught me a huge lesson. His simple answer stays with "Make it look like a kid did it." That was just one of the profound comments Ive amassed from 5 year olds and up over the years I've been working to improve civics in elementary school. Listen to the kids.

To promote equity and social justice through an inclusive curriculum, select materials that represent diverse cultures, histories, and experiences. This validates all students' identities and broadens their perspectives. Representation in the curriculum can boost students' confidence and engagement. Additionally, teaching about social justice issues equips students to understand and address these challenges in their lives.

A representativa é dos elementos mais importantes para incentivar o engajamento no processo de aprendizagem. No Brasil, por exemplo, temos a Lei nº 11.645/2008 que estabalece o ensino da história e cultura indígena e afro-brasileira, tensindo justamente uma visão eurocêntrica e não tropicalizada das matrizes curriculares. Perceber a importância da representatividade, bem como do acesso a conhecimentos diversos, passa também por respeitar a autonomia e as vivências do aluno como parte estruturante do ensino. Bem como por conscientizar-se do apagamento das histórias e vivências de vários grupos no país. Compõe ainda parte do nosso dever com professor de ir além do facilmente acessível, aprimorando visões e trocas educacionais na sociedade.

My classroom was 100% inclusive. In my experience, it is very easy to get caught up in what students cannot do, or challenging behaviors. Even three and four-year-olds pick up very quickly when you’re putting someone down, when you seem like it’s a chore to work with someone. Me and my coworkers with my classroom would make it a point to say positive things, get really excited about what students could do, if a student was struggling with something we would intentionally ask help from the other peers. “What do you think we could do? Do you think we can help this person? Do you have an idea that might help?” This would inspire the students working together and the classroom, both teacher and student.

I have found this point very well written as it reflects on what you teach and how you teach it so students get a better understanding of what society demands to provide sustainable solutions for various social justice issues.

Our team just beta tested a strategy for Morning Meetings in elementary school (15 minutes) that allows all kids' voices to be heard and is led by a student. The results are very positive. When we elevate the children's voices, there is a sea change in the classroom. Happier, more cooperative students who are allies of the teacher. Happier teacher. The ripple effect I'm thinking would be felt throughout the school if used consistently.

Establishing strong support systems in many schools to enhance students who are struggling to cope in the educational coursework does not always happen especially in places where it is difficult to obtain networking of social workers, allied health and professional assistance due to funding, remoteness, parental support and lack of communication.

A autonomia do aluno apresenta-se como uma das principais ferramentas para atuação do futuro cidadão na sociedade democrática. Construir espaços seguros nos momentos educacionais onde o erro seja possível e passível de questionamento e correção permite trabalhar junto aos alunos as divergências de posicionamentos tão comuns nos espaços públicos da socidade. Aqui, no entanto, é importantíssimo evitar que agressões sejam reproduzidas em sala, ensejando crimes como racismo, lgbtfobia ou comportamentos antiéticos. Surge novamente então a importância de que os assuntos de diversidade sejam pautados previamente pela potência e não pela violência, retomando o tópico anterior sobre as matrizes curriculares inclusivas.

We started Kids' Councils in an elementary public school as an experiment (different iterations over 8 years). The most refined approach was a kid-run election of representatives in all 4th and 5th grade classrooms (adding 4th grade was the 5th graders' idea - "We're stepping up. We want to leave a legacy." They came up with issues of concern, debated them and then presented at the all school assembly. A mic was passed around the audience and all kids had a chance to ask questions of the council. Sadly, that was exactly when COVID hit. Shutdown.

Educational equity can only be enhanced when we don't see education and just a right verbally or on paper but put it into practice by creating a system that gives room for even the poorest of the poor to have access to education through free educational system. By creating free educational system social equality will easily spread in our society because it will bridge the gaps between the children of the rich and the poor.

Reflecting on things that blow up in your face is equally as important as reflecting, on the really awesome days. Sometimes people get focused on times when they messed up. We also need to equally put as much if not more time into looking at what we did right. the lesson plans that were super engaging with your students: They wanted to continue learning, The activities were so fun, and Everyone was smiling. This only comes with reflective practice. If it was successful try it again find out what specifically makes it amazing, and I can guarantee you’ll find more success, engaging your students, and maybe even looking forward to going to work.

Some thing you need to get to know is how you view the world. Except an understand, your beliefs, your opinions, and your values, and also have respect for yourself that you are who you are today and you’ve lived a life. No one else has. Please do not place your opinions or your values directly onto a young learner. Our role in their life is to guide them and lead them in education. Adults need to be specifically careful how they engage with students and make sure to be aware of internal biases, and make certain that you’re keeping a learning environment that empowers our students to learn about the world around them with an open heart and mind.
